Default To Buy or Not to Buy!

Hello all,

I am new to this forum but very excited. I am contemplating about purchasing a used 350z next fall (fall of 2016). I have done my research and I can get a used '05 for about 8,000$ with decent mileage. I live in Montreal, Quebec so yes, this would be my summer car. Now I have a few concerns. First I am currently 19 years old however, I will be 20 when I purchase the car. I have been driving for 2 1/2 years and I have had my own car ('04 Acura EL Prestige) for a year and I have never received a ticket nor have I ever been in an accident. The next thing is that I know of horror stories where kids purchase a car then cannot pay it off etc. I have more than enough money to pay off the car in one shot, but I am planning to put half down and borrow the other half from the bank in order to help build credit. Also, my current car is 100% payed. I will be driving the 350z during the summer (about 6 months), lock it up during the winter and drive my Acura for the remaining months. My question for you all is, given my situation, do you suggest that I get one myself? Thank you!

Matthew

After doing some extensive research before purchasing my own Z a few days ago, I will say stay away from the 2005/2006 models. They had an oil consumption issue and personally that is the last problem I would want to deal with. If the owner has taken care of it, and everything suits to your liking (mileage / color / cleanliness / etc) then go for it. The first time I sat in a Z was the day I test drove it and bought it. I love it, and if you ever decide to pull the gun and get it, I know you will love it too.

Welcome and the same advice applies to anyone seeking to buy a new Z. Seek out a qualified Nissan tech in your area and pay them to do a full mechanical assessment on the car. It's the best $100-200 you can spend on a used car.

All DE motors have oil consumption issues just to different extents. I'd look for the newest year of the generation you want ie: 2007. This will have more issues fixed than previous years and a little more updated. If money is no issue, why not bump to a 370z?
