Default Car insurance question???

Is it a common practice for insurance companies to keep the old damaged parts? My HKS Dual exhaust was damaged in a car accident and it's going to be replaced by the insurance company.

I didnt hear it straight from the insurance company. I heard it from the bodyshop. I wanted to sell the old one and told the body shop guy that I was going to sell it for X amount of dollars. 2 weeks later he tells me this.

Is this normal guys? Or is the bodyshop guy trying con me?

If the insurance company is paying to replace a damaged part, then that part belongs to the insurance company.

Sounds fishy to me. Talk to your insurance company. Why would they want a used and damaged exhaust system?

Its not fishy its how things are done. That'd be the same as me wanting my totalled car to sell for parts after my accident. Once they sent me my check I had to hand over the title. Once you get your money, whats damaged is theirs.

sounds normal to me. otherwise people would begin scamming insurance
companies by selling damaged parts they replaced.
