As a matter of fact I did and all he said was "no". I told him I understood it didn't have one and he said "no". So I let it slide as to not insult his intelligence. Though I'm really interested as to why dey dont.
The Z is "fly-by-wire" meaning that the ECU controls the throttle, not some physical linkage between the gas pedal and the throttle. There's nothing you can add or hookup to make it work. You would need a new ECU but I suspect the problem with that idea is that since you only have a base, the ECU that would support cruise control would also support some other things that you don't have. That would probably cause problems, for example TCS/VDC.
I bought a Base. I was told my local auto shop down the road could install it by NISSAN. Took the car to them they said yeah not a problem. So, I figure I'll go back in a month or two when I have time and have it installed. When back dropped off the car took the bus home. They called 4 hours later saying my car was ready to be picked up.
I go to the cashier pay my bill get in the car..... WTF !!!??? Where's the cruise control.
Went back inside, they talked amoungst themselves and then the owner came out.
Explained that my car couldn't have cruise control installed on it cause it was a fly by wire thottle. They gave my money back.
I thought it would have been a nice add if they could have installed it but expected it couldn't be done when I bought the car. I didn't like the cruise controls in the steering wheel. I liked the aftermarket one cause it was a stalk type. I would have wanted cruise installed with that set up otherwise ..... I would rather not have it.
When I go on cross country drive I generally take another car so for me it's not a loss.
Now with the '06 stereo controls and cruise in the steering wheel; I would buy a upgrade model. The only problem with that is when one of those control goes out it's hecka expensive to fix.

Ok, here it goes... I have been reading all posts that state it cannot be done. This is just not in my vocabulary. Therefore, here is a little solution for the base model cruise control... Use a generic cruise control, like a Rostra Ultra Cruise II. It requires the following electrical connections; power, ground, brake, VSS, Tach and an accessory power. All of these are available in our 350Z’s. The VSS wire is in pin 26, gray 16-pin plug, at the Unified Meter and A/C Amp behind the A/C controls in the center console. In addition, the Tach wire is the blue one located at any one of the coils. Ok that takes care of the easy part. Now we want to have the throttle actuator grab a throttle cable, this is usually done underneath the hood (but we cannot do that as there is no throttle acutator). So you will have to run the cable into the inside of the car and have it grab and pull the accelerator pedal. ( this may require a bracket made to pull the gas pedal down) The reason why the cruise control module is located in the engine compartment is because of the noise that is generated by the module is annoying. Hope this sheds some light on the dismal “350Z Base Cruise Control Issue”
