it depends. when parking uphill (front up) then you put it in first gear but when parking downhill (front down) you put it in reverse.

+1, onthe e-brake not the suby always apply brake first to make it the first line of defense and then the gear, you don't want to have the tranny support the car.

I park the car in first gear out of habit. Unless its an unusual situation, the emergency brake is OFF.

I typically decide while parking "if I am to accidentally pop the clutch out when starting up the car, would I rather have the car lurch forward or lurch backward?"

Like if you are parked 2cm away from a wall and lurch forward, you could hurt your bumper pretty bad...

Any reason to why your in reverse when downhill (front down)? I always put on 1st gear with ebrake no matter what.

1) ebrake
2) reverse unless car is facing uphill;then first.

ebrake keeps the "strain" off the tranny. tranny is just a back up.

There was a thread on here a few months ago on the same subject. You never want to just park with the e-brake only on because there have been cases (not just Z's) where the e-brake has failed and people have come back to find their cars in a different spot. Use gear+e-brake always... I do 1st gear + e-brake.
