OK, I just purchased a new 35th Anniversary a week ago. What's everyone's opinion on the break in rules. I mean when i test drove it, i drove it HARD.

They will tell you to keep it under 4K for the first 1200 as stated in the manual. This is more for deniability from Nissan than anything. Engines today are made to drive right off the lot. I have several friends that are mechanics and have gone to trade school for this. They all agree that engines are made to be driven, hard if wanted, right off the lot. Personally I will probably adhere to the under 4K for 1200 at least, maybe 2K just to make sure.

on a NA motor break in period is very short and the rings and valves seat in fairly quick.. first 20-30 miles and u should be ok.. i would change the oil for sure and take it easy for a few hundred miles and thats it... this will also give time for the clutch and transmission to break in also, even though they dyno test most of these components from factory, u can never be too safe.

BREAK-IN

During the first 1,200 miles (2,000 km), follow
these recommendations to obtain maximum engine
performance and ensure the future reliability
and economy of your new vehicle. Failure to
follow these recommendations may result in
shortened engine life and reduced engine performance.
I Avoid driving for long periods at constant
speed, either fast or slow. Do not run the
engine over 4,000 rpm.
I Do not accelerate at full throttle in any gear.
I Avoid quick starts.
I Avoid hard braking as much as possible.
I Do not tow a trailer for the first 500 miles
(800 km).
I Accelerate slowly and smoothly. Maintain
cruising speeds with a constant accelerator
position.
I Drive at moderate speeds on the highway.
Driving at high speed will lower fuel economy.
I Avoid unnecessary stopping and braking.
Maintain a safe distance behind other vehicles.
I Use a proper gear range which suits road
conditions. On level roads, shift into high gear
as soon as possible.
I Avoid unnecessary engine idling.

I just asked this question 3 months ago! Coincidentally, I had also purchased a 35th.
