Official Newsletter of ZDayZ 2006

February 24, 2006
Another couple of weeks have passed and we continue to speed toward ZDayZ weekend. There is a lot going on behind the scenes. I apologize to everyone for not being "on the ball" with the newsletter and our website. With any luck, I'll be able to devote a little more time to our official ZDayZ information outlets in the coming weeks. Here is the latest round of ZDayZ NewZ for the masses
ZDayZ Lodging
As of this week Fontana Village Resort is full!!! That's right, we have completely booked FVR's 140+ room/cabin facility. Unfortunately, the overflow locations have limited space at this time. We suggest you first try the MicroTel Inn & Suites in Robbinsville. We have blocked around 20 rooms and they are providing a 10% discount to ZDayZ attendees who book their rooms before April 30th. MicroTel can be reached directly by calling 828-479-6772. MicroTel is approximately a 25-minute drive from Fontana Village.
You may also be able to secure one of the few rooms Tapoco Lodge still has available. Tapoco Lodge is located at the bottom of Tail of the Dragon and about 15 minutes from FVR. They do not open for the season until April 1st. You can still book your room, though, by leaving a message. Someone from Tapoco Lodge will call you back. Their number is 828-498-2345.
There are a few more options for ZDayZ attendees in Robbinsville. There are two nice, older motels I have been told are good places to stay. Again, since they are near Robbinsville, we're talking a 25-minute drive from Fontana Village. One is the San-Ran Motel, www.mountainhomepage.com/sanran/, or call 828-479-3256. The other is the Phillips Motel, www.phillipsmotelonline.com/. They can be reached at 828-479-3370.
Once these resources are exhausted, the next nearest lodging will put you as much as an hour away from the event in Andrews, Murphy, or Bryson City. On the plus side, staying that far away means you get to have a great drive on your way to ZDayZ!
Another option you have is to check the ZDayZ Forums Lodging section. This section of the forum has been set up for those looking for rooms and those with extra cabin space to get together. Check it out www.zdayzevents.com/zforum.
ZDayZ CaravanZ
Just as we did last year, ZDayZ is providing a caravan forum on our website. Since many Z-related sites focus on only one generation of Z, this provides a good place for enthusiasts of all generations to get together and make caravans heading toward ZDayZ 2006. We recently "cleaned up" these forums, removing threads still lingering from last year's event. Check it out and post your departure/arrival and route information so others can join you for the drive. The ZDayZ forums can be found www.zdayzevents.com/zforum.
ZDayZ AdvertiZing
If you keep your eyes open, you will see a little more advertising than we have done for ZDayZ in the past. We've put together a nice array of ads, flyers, and posters to publicize the show (though, if the lodging situation is any indication, it seems word is getting out rather well already!). You can download our event flyer and other images from the DownloadZ area of our website.
Here are the flyer (top) and promo 18"x24" poster (bottom) for the event
Activity Spotlight - ZDayZ Car Show
Each newsletter we'll highlight one or more of our planned ZDayZ activities. We're starting off with the ZDayZ cars show since this is the largest single activity the entire weekend. To keep things simple, we have a bulleted list of information pertaining to the show. If you require more detail, check our website or feel free to shoot questions to us at info@zdayzevents.com:
- The car show is People's Choice for most categories (all generation specific awards and Best in Show). Each ZDayZ attendee will be provided a car show ballot to select their favorites. Ballots will be tallied by ZDayZ staff with the cars receiving the most votes in each class being awarded 1st and 2nd place trophies accordingly. Any ties will be broken by ZDayZ staff voting.
- At this time, the class awards include stock and modified classes for 1st Gen Z, 2nd Gen Z, 3rd Gen Z, 4th Gen Z, 5th Gen Z, and G35. There is also a 5th Gen Forced Induction modified class. Based on car show registrations, we will add other classes as necessary.
- Additional special awards will be selected by ZDayZ staff. Here are brief descriptions of the additional awards (other awards may be added prior to ZDayZ):
- "What's Hot in the Streets" - Winning car exemplifies what is best in street and current in modding. The car has a selection of modifications that set it apart from the crowd, yet flow together in a seamless fashion.
- Sport Z Magazine Award - Selected by Sport Z representatives on site for ZDayZ and awarded to one car for its overall appearance and presentation.
- Competition Class Award - For this class, beauty goes beyond appearance. The winner of this award will be the Z that best represents what a track car should be.
- Best Under Construction - This award goes to the car ZDayZ staff feels is almost, but not quite, to the point of being a Best in Show car.
- Best Dressed Engine - Just like it sounds the Z with the most impressive engine bay.
- Best In Car Entertainment (tentative) - Award for the best and most integrated In Car Entertainment system. For this award, it is not enough to have the most LED screens or watts of stereo power. The winning car will be the one whose system also looks most like an integral part of the car.
- All entrants to the car show will receive *********.com / ZDayZ pint glasses! Images of this special ZDayZ item will be posted soon.
- Many raffle prizes will be given away during the car show. Some prizes can only be won by being a car show entrant! We also are making an effort to ensure there is at least one generation specific prize for each generation of Z.
ZDayZ would like to recognize partner sponsor SPORT Z MAGAZINE! They have supported our event all three years, continue to be a great source of information for Z-enthusiasts, and eager supporters of the Z-community at large. Be sure to check out their new Sport Z t-shirts, which feature each generation of Z-car.
That is all for this week. More ZDayZ updates will be coming soon

For those (like taurran above) who are reluctant to enter the car show because 'they don't have a chance to win anything', you really should consider it anyway.
Why?
1 - It's a People's Choice show, so you never know. The show is not judged on points so anyone who has a well presented car has a chance.
2 - We have LOTS of trophies to give out. At least two in each class (12 classes) and a host of special awards.
3 - You get some cool stuff just for entering. Last year, we gave out some high quality keychains with the ZDayZ logos to car show pre-registrants. This year every car show entrant will receive the afore mentioned pint glasses.
4 - Most importantly, its fun! It gives you a chance to mingle with other attendees, see a lot of cars at one time, and just have a good time. I think the show is actually better than the dinners for talking to folks because you can move around more and meet more people.
mcduck... shamelessly plugging his show.

NOTE: If you are planning to attend ZDayZ and have not registered for ZDayZ, please consider doing so soon. You can download the registration form from this webpage.
The more people who pre-register, the easier it is for us to do our pre-planning for the event.
and for those who need added incentive... the ONLY way you can win ZDayZ door prizes donated by our sponsors is to be a registered ZDayZ attendee or guest
