Sponsorships
Hey everyone, whats up? Im getting my Z in a couple of months
and am planning on doing tons of upgrages (FI, widebody kit, custom interior, just about everything). Basically, im looking for some info on sponsorships. What exactly is a sponsorship? Do you get free stuff from the companies? Do you have to belong to a team? How do you get sponsors? Any info would help. Thanks!
Get your Z first, drive it for awhile, dont crash.....
do a few mods and then ask for sponsorships.....
They wont touch you unless you can prove that your willing (ie:able) to provide them with a marketting ploy....
P.S Dont deal with comps like : sponsorship.com... its a scam!
Cheers,
Lou

You can always do what I plan on doing.... don't get a sponsor, but do it all on your own over a few years then reward yourself with features in mags, show awards, & other media outlets

While were on the subject of sponsorships, I was wondering if someone has a sample of what a formal proposal would look like. I'm new to the whole applying for sponsorship thing. Rickdogg was kind enough to send me that link from jtuned, which was very helpful by the way. But i'm looking for something on paper (in a document) that would give me an example of what one would look like. Can anyone help? Thanks,
Ron

Sponsorship = marketing for companies that do sponsorships.
So think about the principles of marketing on TV:
1. Companies want to advertise on the channels that get the best viewership
2. Companies want to advertise during programs that get the best viewership on that channel
3. Companies want to advertise at specific times during that program when people are most likely to watch the commercials
Translate that to your car and it goes like this:
1. Companies want to sponsor cars that are geographically located in areas where the target demographic is high. In other words, if you live in Nowhere, North Dakota, you're probably not getting sponsored.
2. Companies want to sponsor a car that is at the most number of (well-attended) shows possible (note that our "Z meets" don't count as shows)
3. Companies want to sponsor a car that will attract as much attention as possible while at the shows so that the attendees at the show will see their product rather than glance right over it because it's the car is "boring".
All this said, if you live in an area where the import car scene is dead, there are no organized shows (like HIN, STS, etc), your car won't get noticed at the shows, etc., you're probably not getting sponsored by any of the well-known companies. Further, you're wanting sponsorship in a car that has been on the market for 3 years now and is in it's fourth year of production. Your best bet is to go after the smaller companies that don't have a big marketing presence and will jump at any chance to get their name out there.
Good luck.
