Angry I'm so F'in pissed..................

Nice Thanksgiving.

I was on the way home for my sister-in -law's house tonight in the Z of course , and what appears in my lane just outside a 45 mph corner, but a freakin re-tread from a tractor trailer. How the hell a full size re-tread shows up on this road beats me, but of course I hit it and all I can think about is a big dent and a huge black streak down the passenger side of the car. I'm only 5 minutes from my house, pull into the driveway and see washer fluid running from the right front of the car. The impact dented the front bumper into the washer bottle I'm sure, took out my clear marker and left black marks all over the right front bumper. I'm so freakin pissed off right now I can't see straight. My Z didn't have a blemish on it and now it's off the the freakin Insurance office for a claim and repair. I was hoping this day would never come but I guess that was just wishful thinking.

I try not going thru the insurance company whenever possible... now that you've probably calmed down a bit, have you thought about possibly *not* going through the insurance company ? How much is your deductible, first of all?

Have you thought about possibly fixing the washer fluid can yourself and buying a new one? I don't know how bad the damage is or if you can even fix it yourself. How about buying a brand new aftermarket (Nismo, for example) front bumper and get it repainted? You can take off the front bumper and put a new one on yourself. The aftermarket bumper repainted runs about $700 or so, so if it's right in the ballpark of your insurance deductible , I wouldnt file a claim. Keep us updated.

I had the samething happen on an old car. If you call your insurance company tell them that it came off the truck and hit your car. If you tell them that you ran it over; they will rate it as an accident. If it came off the truck and hit your car then your not at fault.

That is correct. If you tell them the object was in "motion" then it is not chargeable as an at-fault accident.

The same thing happened to me...twice. Front bumper, washer fluid container, front spoiler, etc. Estimate of $2100.

Sorry about the Z. That type of incident with debris on the road can get dangerous if you take sudden actions to avoid the junk. In this case it didn't happen, and you’re safe at home: fixing that car is a lot easier than fixing you.

I’m going to respectfully disagree. I pay insurance premiums to cover incidents such as this. What's to point of insuring the car and NOT filling claims. I’m sure that insurance companies wound prefer that no one ever files a claim.

I agree with this to some extent. I was just saying this may be a good time for him to take "advantage" of the situation and get a new cool aftermarket front bumper for his car IF the repair costs are somewhat in the ballpark of his insurance deductible (e.g. $700 vs $500). I agree with you if repair costs are $2000, for example.

Sucks... but not a total loss.

This should be covered under compprehensive on your ins.. Your rates should NOT go up. If they do get another ins company... Usally comp coverage has low dedutable like $250, CHeaper than buying a new bumper on your own.

Plus side... The body shop may let you get aftermarket parts for your Z but you would have to pay the difference..

Thanks for the info. It could have been alot worse.

Most of the damage is from the right center to right side on the bumper and lip. The loose part of the retread slapped and flexed the upper part of the bumper in which took out the corner marker and must have cracked the washer bottle. Is there anything other than wiring that I should make sure I check out in that area of the car?

On a positive note, now I may get that Nismo bumper.

Most of you probably know this...but (in speaking with a former cross country truck driver) I know that some of the truck drivers have to incur the cost of tire replacement themselves...As these bad boys are big and expensive, most "Trucker M*therf*ckers"...as I call 'em, opt to take the re-tread route, which are just giant strips of rubber tread glued on.

Obviously, When the heat builds up too much in the tire, the glue loosens and then "blump, blump, blump" (sound effects...lol )....A portion of the tread flies off...I AVOID driving behind trucks for this very reason and try my BEST to scan ahead as far as possible...sometimes you're going to fast to avoid one though...
