Default Increasing Gas Pedal Resistance

Sup people of My350Z.com,

I did a search for this and I found nothing. Anyone know how to increase the resistance of the gas pedal? Coming from a German car to the Z makes the pedal seem too light and I can't get used to it. I went underneath the dash board to check it out and found nothing. Anyone have any ideas, is this a dealer issue, or will I just be having to deal?

You could probably change the spring on the throttle pulley. I dont know if this is the best way to do it, but it's something to consider. Maybe you could pull the spring and bring it to a hardware store, try to find something with the same dimensions and a different spring rate.

So pretty much it is not as easy as adjusting the clutch. I thought I was missing something.

Never thought I'd see something like this being posted.

Learn to drive a car with a 6 puck racing clutch with ZERO springs with solid enough mounts, making 5 times the stock horse power. you learn fast how to handle the gas pedel 1st and 2nd gear are all unusable unless you ease on the throttle. good times =)

Same goes for riding a fuel injector supersport bike a lot of people think they're touchy. IMO they're perfect.

I love the Zs pedal feel and wouldnt want it any other way.

p.s do you use your whole foot or just your toes when you give it gas?

Pulling a spring is real simple. If your looking for a finer adjustment you can go with a compound set up. A thinner spring with a OD (outer diameter) 1/4 smaller than the ID (Inner diameter) of the larger spring. Just for finer adjustments though. like a pound or two.

OMG, dudes.. touchy gas pedal is also know as a 'great throttle response' why in the world would you want to desensitize it??!

True but it takes some people longer to get use to. It's also a big thing for High HP cars. Increase the pedal resistance and lesslikely to bounce it on a take off.

+1

I've been thinking about this as well. I find myself goosing the throttle whenever I go over a bump. Want to increase the resistance at the gas pedal.

Is the spring in the driver's compartment or in the engine bay? Don't have a shop manual.

Thx for any advice.

I whole heartedly aggree. I came from the world of Blown chevy 350's with 800hp so I know. Trying to "lightly" come on the gas, goosing the sucker and light it up. Yeah you learn REAL quick, especialy when your tires lose mass verry quickly with each screw up. That was 9 years ago. I got it down.

I used the toes at the bottom of the pedal method. gives a little more resistance until you get up to speed. Well thats for everday driving not launching.

Just wondering, are you guys the type of people that do not like sharp knifes becuase they cut too easily?

I know a lot of people who feel that since they cut so easily you can end up cutting your self...... you'd rather put more force into something to make it work. Sounds like you have higher odds of pushing to hard and forcing it to far causing you to give it too much throttle or in the knifes case if it isnt sharp you have to force the knife to tear the meat. When it slips it dose some nasty damage to any limbs in the way.

Start driving with your toes, same goes for riding bikes. You ride on your toes no your heels.

Not every one is comfortable doing this. I am a strong proponate of knowing how to drive your car the best way to get the most preformance out of it. But the best way to drive your car is the way you feal most comfortable. If you are not comfortable behind the wheel you are apt to do damage. So I guesse you can look at the stiffer spring as training wheels. Eventualy I would recomend going back to the stock one if you have he stiffer spring though, you will get more out of the car.

No problem I try and pass it to as many people as I can so they can learn their car more. Kinda like knowing your own body, you cant tell something is wrong if you don't know.

Thanks for the helpful responses, especially the crap about sharp knives. Thank god we have people on the forum that are great with analogies or I would never get any help with my Q's. Unfortunately the 03 350Z manual is "TnA". I did find the spring and the screw to remove it but I have no idea where to get a replacement spring with more tension. At 6'3" 225 with more of my height in my legs pushing the pedal and holding the pedal is a particular position is causing a pain in my upper thigh. Maybe I may be a half an inch too tall.
