2005 Vs 2006

^^I'm of the opinion that the real world results outweight any humming and hawing over theoretical stuff. The real world track results will show you if the 300hp can overcome the extra weight, etc. I think it did. But, yeah, on the street its probably not noticeable as they say.
I don't think Best Motoring would be biased from one Z to another Z!

The drag strip is a better place to see which car is quicker, by doing a heads up run.
200+ lbs is a lot for a 13 hp increase to overcome, not to mention the torque loss.
On a road course, the extra weight will hurt, as will the loss of torque coming out of the corners.
If it didn't weigh so much more, the slight power gain would help the top end on the longer straights.
IMO, the 300hp Z is no quicker than the Z with 287hp, but time will tell.

Please go to the dragstrip several times and race. Not test-and-tune but competition racing. You'll learn about your car and your skills. You’ll also learn the answer to your question.

also, the drag strip is a good place to see what can go faster in a straight line but track is to see which can go faster overall in all aspects of the car, ie. braking, handling, corner speed...and like i said, the 35th Anniversary took the 287hp version from the line as well and by the end of the race, the 35th was a decent 4-5 car lengths ahead...in fact, every single lap the 35th was a good .4 to a full second faster in times...

Having a LOT of track time myself, I will withhold judgement, until I can drive one.
I don't care who you are, 200 lbs is a good deal of weight to overcome with just 13 hp, especially when the car makes less torque. When you road race, the torque is a very important factor coming out of the turns.
It's possible you are right, I just find it difficult to believe, until I see for myself.

IMO who gives a ****. The people with 05s are pissed because the 06 has more power. The people with 06 are pissed because they have less torque than an 05. Everyone get over the stupid little difference. I have an 05 with the 300 hp engine. I have driven both. My only complaint is the lower redline of the 287 hp engine. It felt wierd because i was used to my car. And my car felt slightly faster but it has slight mods.
Honestly. Who cares? no one keeps their Z stock nowadays anyway. So it really doesnt matter.

even at the beginning of the race, both drivers said there should be no noticeable difference...in fact they said the Revup's wider rims should give it more oversteer but instead it balanced out the car
i don't know...perhaps those few minor adjustments Nissan made really did make a difference? i can't say, i've never driven an '05 or a 35th Anniversary...my '06 still only has 300 miles on it and i haven't floored or gone over 4k rpms yet so i can't make any kind of judgments whatsoever...i'm only reporting what was on that video
but again, in the end, BOTH drivers agreed that NONE of that would be notieceable on the street...the difference is too unsubstantial

The Z has gone though 2,400 cc 2,600 cc, 2,800 cc 3,000 cc and now 3,500 cc (two types so far). One day we will see a 370 or 380Z. Progress is inevitable. So relax and enjoy your ride.

I am pretty sure the JDM version makes the same 300hp power that USDM version makes, but they rate it at 280hp to get by the Japanese power requirements.
This has been proven with cars like the GT-R.
David, we are only discussing the difference and most of us are relaxed. I hope it does perform better, as we should be making progress.

From what I understand the performance difference is pretty small...and some of you are right it probably doesn't make a difference...
One of the mags ran a test on this topic (need remember which one) but I remember it stated that the 05 (35th and Track) with 300hp had a slightly faster 0-60 time (I think only .1 - .2 second difference) and a very slight advantage in the 1/4.
They didn't test the 06, but I'm not sure how much the 130-150lbs difference would make in those numbers... My guess is that it would bring it in line with the 287hp numbers. Also with the larger wheels, especially on the Track and GT, the larger contact patch will help launching the vehicle and maintaining traction through the first part of the run....

There are no more power restrictions in japan btw.. and so there is no confusion, this was a pact made up by the auto companies, toyota, nissan, honda and such. So they would not get into HP wars with cars when they should be going for gas mileage.
Been out since the end of last year or so.
That is why all the newer japanese cars are over 300 and such this last year, and upcoming models are all over 300 for the sportty cars and such.
