Factory turbo?
Has anyone read the new Motortrend mag? I was reading it yesterday and it had a page of factory performance cars one of them was the Nismo 350Z it basically talked about the exhaust etc.. At the bottom of the article is said something about when they come out with the convertible and the turbo 350Z. I would be pissed if I bought a Z then the next year they came out with a turbo!!! Has anyone heard any more info about if they are going to make a Turbo version?
I have not heard anything about a factory turbo, but I did read that article. That would really **** me off though. My Z hasn't even arrived yet , but I would be very upset if it was inferior in one year.

I hope they do come out with a turbo model!!! Although I do know what you mean when you say that you would be upset about having an inferior model...
I think they will need to bring in a turbocharged model in a little while in order to be able to compete with all of the new high-powered cars that are coming out!

Maybe they are basing it off how the old Z32 was introduced... we'd have a 350ZX then. ;-) They'll have to do something fairly soon to compete with the STi, EVO, new Toyota sports car, and whatever else is coming down the line. The GTR will be a great performer but it's also more expensive than the mentioned cars. Who knows... I'm no Nissan VP.

I read an article awhile back. While yes you can expect to see a Turbo Z in the future the article stated it won't happen until at least 2006. So you have a few years before the Turbo models start showing up. UNLESS of course the new Turbo Supra, Lotus Elise, and other competitors come out faster and better. Which would start hurting the Z sales and they would probably bump up release to compete with the new breed of supercars.
well things ar escalating faster than they think, look here

Yeah but I don't think Nissan sees the WRX as competition to the 350Z. Same with everything else I've seen on this board with regards to car manufacturers jumping on to the turbo bandwagon, truth is they are all jumping on in the compact car market. You know the kind of cars these guys have seen while their kids watch TF&F. Dodge Neon, Mazda Protege, Subaru STi WRX, these cars are not considered the same class even if their most competitive version can beat the snot out of a ZO6. Instead you'll see what you always see, Nissan 350/Skyline, Mazda RX8, Toyota Supra getting minor updates over the years to compete with eachother. Nissan wouldn't kill one of the most important selling features of the 350Z and that's the price.
Like I keep saying, best you can hope for is a aftermarket turbo kit from Nismo sold through dealers, but even that seems like a long shot. Maybe I've been spending too much time at demotivate.com, because I only see the cup as half empty. BTW the Mistubishi Eclipse dumped the turbo 4 in favor of a V6.

Nissan has seen the error in their ways with the 300ZX, and I doubt will offer a Turbo Z unless it is rebranded and placed into a different market segment (read Infiniti GT-R).
Adding whiz-bang add-ons (4WS, turbos) and therefore adding cost (and naturally, price) killed the 300ZX. Nissan is doing what it should do by keeping the Z as a low-priced, segment-killer.
I would bet that Nismo offers a FI kit, available through dealers, and if that's the case who cares when you get your Z. You drive your 2003 down to the dealer in 2004 when they market the FI kit and say "gimme that turbo kit there" and hand them your Visa.
It won't offer a Turbo 350Z from the factory (I hope) because that would devalue the N/A Z and cannibalize their own sales.
It's Marketing 101 all over again boys n' girls... and I'm glad Nissan finally (6 years later) woke up!

the fact that they state it so matter-of-fact and we know the convertable is true, its almost like they know something we dont
