Well... I use to have this problem... Not anymore... I purchased some shoes with ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) at first I was skeptical about them but since I have not experienced "the zap" since I have to assume it works... Just in case you are wondering what shoes I got they can be found in the link below...

Used to just touch the door handle first with my key in hand but now I'm afraid it will fry the transponder in the key. I now just use the back of my hand as it doesn't hurt so much.

I don't have a Z yet but my '03 Maxima does the same thing. I get shocked as I exit the car. Sometimes it's quite a shock. Doesn't happen with my older Sentra though. So, it's at least partially due to the specific vehicle.

What helps reduce it is to hold on to the metal door frame before exiting and then continue to hold it as you exit. This will help drain some of the charge differential when your foot touches the ground but without a shock. For me it doesn't eliminate the shock but it lessens the severity greatly.

very common problem that has been discussed over the last 3 years. I get shocked also. Kind of use to it now. Alot has to to with whether you live in a dry climate. The static on my car is so bad that after I wash and wax my car, the second I start my car all the dust from the ground attracts to the bottom half of my car like magic. its amazing. I can then brush my hand on the paint surface at the bottom and feel the tingle sensation you get when you touch the old TV sets screen after you turn it off. BEN

Not much you can do. If you wear business shoes they have metal strip in them that causes a lot of static electricity. I do get shocked when I touch the door handle it is made out of an aluminum composite coated plastic(called nissan) nothing you can do about that I did buy aluminum floor mats it does help getting out but not getting in. A good shock a day will keep that blood going think of it as shock therapy.

Yeah my old '02 B15 didn't have this problem, ever. But as soon as we got this cold front my Z's been shocking the hell out of me when I get out It's no big deal to me though....

Yeah I think it has mostly to do with the cloth seats and the floor mats. I rarely get shocked in my Z. The only time it happens is in the winter time. Usually I just take the back of my hand and touch the door handle and the electricity transfers. Then I close it normally.. no shock. In my GF's car, is a whole another story. I get shocked ALL the time and its because of her cloth seats.

Try this when getting out of the car:

1. Touch the left foot to the ground, and the back of the calf to the body.
2. Touch the inside door handle.
3. Exit with your foot and hand in place.

You’ll be fine.

It could be the cloth seats? anyways, there is this thing that they sell in SuperAutoBac in stanton, ca That when you go up to the door, just hold this unit up to the door key, and it discharge the static shock and lights up a small blue blub in the unit, pretty cool. They come in different shapes (pills, tiny cars, animal.. etc) no more shock..

sorry, no pics

I love this forum...thing I wouldn't even think to post about get brought up. It's great to know I'm not the only one getting the bejeesuz shocked out of my everytime I get out of my car. I, like others, have gotten in the habit of closing the door by the window. It's so bad, I even find myself doing this when getting out of OTHER people's cars. LOL
It happens more when I where flannel. I've noticed that. I don't want to add dangly strips to my car though...guess I'll "man up" ;-)
