A good exhaust for weight reduction is the JIC single 3" Full Titanium. I received mine last night and weighed it------> 9.8lbs

Honestly no comparison. Nismo is stainless steel, and has a y-pipe and a much larger muffler. I think its around 60-70lbs for the y-pipe to the tips. Although iirc the Nismo does save 10 or so lbs over stock.

You forgot CF hatch with lexan, you can save a good 80lbs there. And maybe 5-10lbs of sound deadner (tar) from the car....

The CF hatch with lexan wont drop that much. Maybe 50lbs. And I am up to 10.3 lbs of sound deadener with 95% of it out.

Do you know from experience? I spoke with Rickdogg on here who has a CF hatch, I thought around 80lbs was what he thought we could save with a lexan window, that hatch glass has to be heavy as hell. I dunno, I could be wrong...

I thought Rickdogg said it was around 50lbs? I am pretty sure it wasn't 80 though.

there are significant weight savings with a CF (albeit an FRP with some CF) with lexan over the stock hatch and glass + plastics.

i believe the stock hatch w/o glass is close to 55-58 pounds.. my CF hatch weighs 21 pounds.. thats already half the weight...

i'm looking for a lexan supplier. i wouldnt be suprised if my total weight on the hatch came out to be around 55 pounds.

hey rickdogg, i was going to guy out all my plastics in the back to take out the sound deadening and some other stuff,


i noticed in your car, that right behind the seats, where the glove boxes and speakers go, all that metal framing is still there, did you try to remove that?? i figured all that would come right out, i guess i will find out really soon......

- Smaller, lighter wheels/tires (Probably save 10-20 lbs)
- Lightweight battery (can be found for like 13-16 lbs, saving 20-30 lbs)
- Titanium Exhaust (Can be good for up to like 30-40 lbs weight reduction)
- Lightweight clutch/flywheel (saves up to 40lbs of weight AND rotational mass)
- Resonated test pipes (OEM cats weigh a lot) (Good for maybe 10-20 lbs)
- Race seats and lightweight mounting hardware (Good for maybe 10-25 lbs)
- CF hood (Good for like 8-10 lbs)
- Spare/jack

The way I see it, once I get all that I want, as long as I don't add a massive stereo system (which I dont' want to), I can drop probably 100 lbs easy, possibly as much as 150 lbs. Thats about how much I weigh, so that'll make her a little more nimble and quicker.

Beyond that, then you have to get into little **** (like sound deading) or major stuff (CF door panels, hatch, etc). And the thing is with the hatch, you actually save more weight by going with a replacement material for the window versus replacing the hatch. And stuff like door panels will require beefing up the protection if its a street car.

All of that metal framing will come out, but then if you don't have some sort of bracing or full roll bar that re-structures what you took out I would question the structural integrity of it. Especially if you drive it on the street. Basically what I am saying is, don't take it out.

As stated earlier in this thread, that is nowhere near true for the Z. The stock Z hood is aluminum which isn't much heavier than Carbon Fiber. Unless you can find someone to make you a dry carbon hood, most of the CF hoods out there weigh the same or more than stock.
