Default Performance vs. Track Edition

I was wondering what are the differences between the performance edition and the track edition other than the following:

-light weight 18" track edition rims
-Brembo brakes

I was thinking of getting the performance edition Z and then just upgrading the brakes later since i'm assuming that the brembos from the track edition can be an easy bolt on application or I can go with another big brake kit elsewhere.

Thanks in advance,

Larry

naw you got it about right, and the aero package, tho there is an elusive underbody diffuser you cant buy. its pretty tiny tho.

your performance rims will sell for about 1000-1200$ with tread. then your looking probably at TE37s(everyone seems to) which are about 700 for 18" and around 800 for 19"(I think). so your looking around 3grand for rims, another 800 for tread, gonna end up around 2500-3000$ for rims and tread upgrade. of course your rims and tread will be better than the track models stuff.

then brakes, your not gonna be selling that too easily, no one wants it. aftermarket brakes run 3000-5000$, for 13-15inch rotors, all of the above will be better than the track package brakes as well(remember they arent even true brembo, they are made by someone else). assuming of course you go to the track, otherwise stick with stock brakes, they stop just as fast the first 5 times in a row.

anyway, you just spent about 6000-8000$ for noticably better stuff on a package thats about 3000$ less. so your paying 3grand extra(as much as 5), for better brakes and rims. this is about as impartial as I get. hope this little explanation helps you make up your mind. its a trade off, the track is a good deal, but you can find better equipment, it aint cheap tho. its time to be brutally honest about what your gonna do with the car; do you really need high performance brakes?

yea, I know what you mean about the things said and its a slight dilemma for me at this point. You get a stock track edition around 35-37k-ish, a little less the 40k out the door.. BUT you might in the near future change the rims, upgrade the brakes, or get the nismo bodykit.

On the other hand, the performance edition is tempting cause it's more around the 29-31k-ish range (which is around my limit) with all the limited slip, CVTC, SVDC, and other goodies offered (i believe the base edition has no limited slip). The aero kit is a $499 option, i'm not sure if the under body diffuser is all that important and I was thinking it can be bought later on and installed from a nissan dealer.

So for about 3-4k less, I got all the almost the same looks, same features, same goodies as a track edition for cheaper in the event of upgrading in the future.

These are just my thoughts, I could be wrong of course.

I'm getting a headache saving up money and waiting for the current lease on the car to end. 350Z will hurt me on insurance, g35 coupe is costly, and i'm not into subarus.. but the new 300hp/300tq wrx sti is tempting at the low 30k price range also

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is coming out pretty soon too, and should be in the 29K-30K range (if you can find one). I had one on order for a year, but bought a 350Z instead.

Nissan made the decision tough on the 350Z by giving them all the same engine/drivetrain/suspension (with the exception of the open diff on the base model). I applaud them for doing that, but it makes deciding on each package that much harder.

I personally went for the Touring because I wanted the leather and seat warmers and stuff (call me a sissy, I can take it). Since you didn't list that as a choice, I'd probably go for the Performance package, even though I think the normal brakes are a bit lacking. The pedal has too much of a spongy feel, but maybe a set of braided lines is all it takes to cure that, I don't know yet. They look wimpy behind the 18" rims as well. The money saved would be worth the trade off though.

i'm kind of iffa on mitsubishi cars, but yes I know about the new lancer evo hitting the north america shores.

I'm only 21, saving up every pay check for the past couple of years for this "new" car.. whatever it is. Seat warmers and things like that are not a necessity for me. I've been thinking about getting the performance edition also, but your right about how it's difficult to choose between the four models. Rims and brakes can always be upgraded later.. it's important for me to have the limited slip and such.

I'll have to see in 10 months when the lease on the current car ends. But thanks to everyone for their opinions/comments
