Default My 350Z is a rattle trap!

I hate my mirror (I wish it was just a cheap simple one that would not rattle) . I have already taken it in to get fixed on the TSB and it is rattling again. In fact, I have taken in my car a number of times to get rattles fixed and as soon as one seems to be fixed, within a week’s time, another rattle appears.

Get this, the service writer blamed the rattles on it being a sports car. He said the suspension is so stiff, it rattles. If that is the case, then why does my 1995 Dodge ram truck that is a 4x4 with stiffer suspension not rattle after 10 years of off roading?

I know it sounds minor, but it is ruining my ability to enjoy the Z. These rattles are really loud. I got a $2500 stereo in it and I have to blast it to over ride the noise produced my the rattles.

Rant over (for now)

Rattles are annoying. Sometimes I have then and sometimes I don’t. When the car is quiet inside, I feel comfortable and relaxed. When the interior is rattling, I feel on edge.

A lot has to do with the temp outside. Bottom line is my 4x4 never rattles so all the excuses I am getting from the dealer are just that, excuses.

I agree the rattles suck. Thats why I spend hours tracking down every rattle on the inside of the car and applied dynomat to them.

Your service manager is just using the "sports car rattle" as a cop out. My Z doesn't rattle at all and I've got 22k miles on it. Maybe mine isn't as sporty as yours. I'd take it to another dealer or call NissanNA and complain to them.

There is a board fix for the mirror rattle. Some guy found it and put a piece of tape on it and its gone. I'll try to drum up that thread. He said it was ungodly annoying too. Damn sports cars with their rattling suspensions!!

I agree 100%. It is just plain BS on their part. I just might take it to the next level. If you rode in my car, you would have to redefine the term "rattle". I actually had to rent a Ford Fucus last month and was impressed with how tight it felt vs sounding like the space shuttle right after the wing came off.

The rattles come out like cockroaches from the woodwork in a crackhouse when its COLD. When the temperature is hot its not really much of a problem. I think maybe Japan didn't test this car well with all the plastic in it for when its cold. I think its a property of the plastic used in the car and it isn't very good for cold. One rattle was something in the rearview mirror that gets really loud sometimes. I had the dealership replace the rearview mirror and the rattle went away... for a few months. It's back now.

Had that same issue. It was so annoying. It was cause of my tires. I was getting a lot of vibration out of it. Got rims, and put Pilots Ps2. No more rattle. I guess the tech at nissan was right. It was my tires! They also replaced my tires on my stock rims for free. 3 days later, I put on my rims. LOL waited to get new tires from them, before I put on my rims.

I noticed when I went from stock 17" wheels and tires to stock 18" wheels and tires, more interior parts started buzzing, not even over bumps, just on the freeway driving normal.

Excellent point...
i guess the size of the wheels and the brand of tires would effect your overall ride quality. i would not buy certain brand of tires. If money is no object, i'd only go for Michelins. BTW my Z does not rattle. The only rattle around the dash board was fixed by the dealer last summer.

There was only one rattle in my car, coming from the rear, I thought it was suspension I took it into the dealer so they could oil whatever, but it was still there....So I went to the back of the car and started pushing all around on that plastic peice that covers the top of the hatch lid. Sure enough, where the wiper motor sits, one of the pop in screws came loose, so I hit the plastic and it popped back in, rattles gone....my Z has no rattles I am happy since I dont like my music loud, unless its a really good song :P :P

When my car rattles, I like to scream back and punch it in the face, its fun.

Tires could cause rattles but thats beside the point, it shouldn't. I know the earlier models have rattles but this hasn't been fix with the 05s? I was gonna trade mine in cause the rattles are killing me, my hand and throat hurts.

I got a really good rattle behind the passenger dash that started at around 4k miles...have 7k now and it's getting louder. Only happens at lower speeds between 15-30mph over certain bumps. But that is dozens of times a day on my route!

I also have a great creak coming from my driver seat too when I shift my weight. Notice it a lot when I make a 90 deg. left hand turn.

All I need now is a hum and I've got a U2 album!

Here I come dealership...

The two little circle's under the front windshield rattle like a ****.

The silver piece around the shifter rattles like crazy.

The rear view mirror rattles like crazy.

The rear strut brace rattles like crazy.

I've got some sort of rattle coming from the passenger side door.

There is also an internal rattle somewhere in my dash when the car is slowing down to idle.

Overall build quality sucks w/ the Z.

I have a wicked one on my drivers side dash near the A-pillar, it goes away as the sun heats up the dash but for the first 15 minutes or so it drives me nuts!
