A Chrome Z??
At first I was going to go with a Dodge orange which was very beautiful, with many orange metallic flakes, but.... I went to go pick up some supplies at the local PPG paint store today, and in their showroom they had a wall of new custom colors that had just come out. I'm planning on going back tommorow, and taking some pics to show my fellow Z brothers
. Among them, their was a new chrome color and they explained the special way it had to be sprayed. Its a pint size bottle of the special "liquid" which cost $150.
1. Paint the whole vehicle base black.
2. Spray on the "liquid" chrome with a high pressure, but minimizing the amount which is sprayed, so it is basically misted on.
3. Let dry for 10 days, which is the kind of downfall on it.
4. Sand and buff the whole vehicle after the 10 days.
5. Wash and prep for clear coat.
Now, the only detail holding me back on painting my Z chrome(which imo will look SICK!), is that I heard that it may be illegal, because of the shine it will reflect when the sun hits it and could distract other drivers. Otherwise, tommorow, I'm going back with a digi, to take photos of all the colors, that have come out. Tell me what you guys think, please keeping flaming, if any to a limit

Seriously, I forgot what company it was in japan but every car they have fixed up is like this mirror silver finish which looks awesome. That's the paint style I would aim for if I was in your situation.

Is the Z your daily driver? I can see if this was a show car, if this was your daily driver, think of how ridiculous driving a chrome car everyday would get.....I think you should go back to the Dodge orange, lol....leave the chrome cars to the show cars. Will wait for pics, btw, you would probably spend about 5G's on the paint alone to get enough for the whole car, but I dunno.
THere was some pics of a chrome painted wide body e46 m3 (new style) floating around the bimmer boards when i used to frequent them. Looked rediculous. Def. a show stopper. I wouldn't do it to my car but then again my car isn't a show car.

there is a guy here who has a chrome supra and it looks pretty sweet. I don't think its illegal here and we have some of the most restrictive vehicle modification laws. the only thing is what type of rims would match with a body like that?

Thats what I dont get...if he owns a body shop, he must know how hard its going to be to keep her clean....Right????
Looks like the Jag that they made very small number of , think it was out of aluminum then sanded to a shine. You will be washing all the time also show smears. One of a kind though.
agreed, very unique and intoxicating (if clean) for a show car. But to see that in traffic on a thursday afternoon on the interstate...i dunno..meh. You'd probably also get crap for being an attention *****. It's a prime candidate for vandalism too. Recommend u go to a show to see a chromed out car in person before painting your daily driver
