Default Where is best place to mount new radar detector?

I just received a cobra radar dectector. It plugs into the cig lighter and since the lighter in behind me I dont want the cord to stretch all the way from the dash to the cig lighter. Does anyone have any solutions?
Thanks in advance

I mounted mine high on the windshield, under the rear view mirror. Run a power wire to the fuse panel in the drivers side footwell. You can hide the wire inside the door insulation strip and under the end of the headliner. Very easy only takes 5 minutes to do and that was with no previous electrical expereince. Do a search for radar hardwire for more info. IMO-much better cleaner look if you do it this way, if you choose to run the cord it will look ghetto.

Technically I've always read high on the front windshield for best reception.

If you mount it high, you run the risk of not detecting laser (lidar) because lasers are point specific (whereas radar has a scatter pattern) and usually aimed at the front bumper.

I have a 2003, which is why I just got the Escort Solo2 cordless detector.

As far as placement, typically the higher on the windshield the better, but due to our sloping roof line (and the center mirror), make sure the detector also has a clear line of sight out the back window. Radar detectors usually have a small pad facing the rear of the car to detect cops behind you.

But what's the point in detecting laser? Since they are point specific, once you detect it you're already too late. And it's not like LIDAR jammers are going to help, they've been proven to be completely ineffective.
