Default Where does the 350z Really Shine?

I was thinking about it today, you know how each sports car sort of has a public pronounced specialty it is known for and shines in. This will be my first Japanese sports car, and it actually feels wierd buying a japanese car since I have grown up with 5.0 Stangs and stuff. So I almsot feel like I should be getting the supercharged 04 Cobra or something. But I really tlike he Z, and I am tired of the whole simple American car feel. I want something with a little more class, a little more elegance, more adult, and I feel the 350z carries that aura, especially in a nice shiny black or white coupe. Either way, so a Mustang is known for its torue thrusts and head slamming acceleration (when really its nothing special, unless you mod it or get a S/C Cobra), the RX8 is known for its nimbleness and rotary engine, so on and so forth, so what awesome characterstic can I look forward to? I can already guess a whole new world in terms of drive quality (ride), especially compared with what I am used to, Mustangs. So I could just imagine it drives so much more up to date. But what performance aspects can I expect from it, does it have sick handling? High power peak that is fun to wind the car out or torque thrusts forward mixed with nasty handling? Things like that.

By the way, another reason I am attracted to the 350 is because I used to day dream every time I seen a 300zx TT of having some day, and they are nice but so hard to find with low miles, TT, manual and a good price. Plus, as they are nice, the 350z Styling is more up to date. But I do like the idea of trying the other ends renowned sports car as it does have heritage.

Rambling again. Thoughts...?

Nowhere. Its a good all-around package of looks, speed, and handling but can be beaten by other cars in the same price range in any given category. Well, maybe not in looks but thats subjective.

I agree. That's something most people don't get about the 350z. It's the jack of all trades, master of none. It's pretty quick, pretty nimble and sounds pretty awesome. But what's it great at? It looks super effin' sexy! Does that count?

Since I have owned 4 of the 5 generations of Z cars, I have to say the heritage is what has always been the alure for me. Best selling sports car line of all time.

Bamyi - I have not gotten it yet. I am shooting for Febuary as of now. I want to put a good bit of change down on it.

I think it will beat a Mustang stock for stock. Stock GT's, well, like 2003-04 are not that fast! I dont even think they have 300hp? If anything it would be too close to call I think. Anyway, I wish I could drive one of these things because I really hope it isnt not fast. I mean I dont expect a supercar, but man I just hope it doesnt have the same lifeless feel of the mustang. What i mean by this in a Mustang if you launched it, it would take off like a beast, but beyond that it really had nothing. I mean you would drop it from 5th to 4th on the highway and it would make alot of noise but it wouldnt really walk away fast enough to be as nearly as impressed as I should have been from a high torque V8. It would be like, you could press gas more and more but it would lead you on more pressing of the gas and less "whoa" acceleration.

Please someone tell me you know what I mean.

I just want something fun but also fast this Spring. Doesnt have to be insane, but good enough where I dont have a 5 liter taxi cab pulling with me like I once did in my stock 89 GT (it actually had gears, full exhaust, and a few other small bolt ons; since that day and many others like it I yearned for a car much faster.

Anyway, I just get this feeling that it is sluggish because alot of the posts I read here there seems to be (and I admit it may be unconciously written) a sort of hesitance to say its pretty quick. Its like no one wants to come out and admit it isnt fast.

No offense, just doing my research befoe buying.

I dont think it has the BEST off the line power, however it does have very very good acceleration all the way through the power band. I have only had mine up to 121 mph so far and felt like doing 80. I suggest going out and driving one, you will be impressed vs. the Mustang GT.

One aspect I also appreciate is the firm feel in the steering. Not too heavy, just right.

Have you every tried to launch it at around 3,500 rpms? I'll admit I am going to like the steering feel I can tell already.

THe Zed car is definately one of the jacks of all trades (price range speaking)

handling - s2000, 350z, rx-8 (can flip with 350z in certain conditions), mustang gt)

speed - mustang gt, 350z/s2000, rx8

looks - 350z/s2000, rx8, mustang gt

practicality - rx8(suicide doors and full rear seats), mustang gt(2+2), 350z, s2000

All you do is burn off tires with anything above about 2500 RPM...

I think it shines at the fact that it can a good sports car, but at the same time be a comfortable crusier, at least in my opinion compared to the Miata, I used to have.

You get the following

Above Average Speed
Above Average Handling
Above Average Looks
Above Average Build

To me the 350z does not really stand out in just one catagory like a Mustang Cobra with its torque, but is a awesome all around car. If all you care about is speed then I would definalty recommend buying a Mustang Cobra instead or a WRX STI...

350 for sure I JUST GOT MINE AND ITS AWESOME. ALREADY MODDED QUITE A BIT THOUGH. I could have been laid 100 times in the last week, but Im faithful to my ol lady. Speed wise mine will smoke my mechanics 93 5.0 stang and its a little modded, also My accord v6 hangs with s2000 @ the track and my z beats them by almost 2 sec, my buddy a work has a very modded wrx and it kills me off the kline of course nut I catch him as well. I have 319 to the wheels in my z I think they have like 260-270 stck, so ALL IN ALL GO WITH THE Z
