I got a chance to put almost 450 miles on my "Z" today. The car has been sitting, covered, with 2" of ice on it... So I figured it would be good excersize for the car. The first half of the trip was on a 2 lane, winding road and the car was a dream.. I set the cruise control at 70 and just let the go by it self. The speed limit was 55 so I figured 15 over was enough.. The return trip was on a 3 lane, interstate highway. The speed limit was 65 and I set the cruise control to 80.. I was still getting passed left & right but The NY State Police took care of a few of them.. I must say, the car averaged 26.8 MPG for the trip and thanks to the cruise control the trip was a joy.. Being able to move my right leg around was great.. Without the cruise control, I would be stiff as a board right now.. I never owned a car that showed a light on the dash when the Cruise control in on and set.. Great idea..I now have 4900 miles on the car in just less than 4 months. Not one complaint.. except.. is there a way to turn off the light in the hatch compartment when the hatch is left open??

YOU DROVE 450 MILES WITH THE HATCH OPEN????? ARE YOU NUTS? J/K Sounds liek you enjoyed it, im planning my first trip ~150 each way to my friend from college in the spring or maybe earlier if the weather stays clear for a weekend. So far as a daily drive to work and back its driving really well. I love it.

 

No.. The hatch was closed as it was 18 degrees outside.. I was just wondering how to turn the light off when I leave the hatch open for a long time.. Anyone know?? Is there a switch like I have in my Volvo??

Two choices:

1. Wire in a switch to the light, and place it next to the opening where the light is.

2. Take a flat-head screwdriver, pop out the light, and unplug. No $hit. I do this all the time when I'm working on stuff in the car.

 

Steve, did you determine your MPG yourself or is the 26.8 what showed on the gauge? Did your calculated MPG and the gauge agree fairly closely? I've only completed one tankful, but when refilling I calculated 23.5 but the gauge read 25.3.

Wayne, I did it both ways.. I always keep a log of all my gas fillup's and service.. I've been doing this for 30 years now..I still have the log book from my 1974 260Z which I sold with almost 200,000 miles on it.. There was just a slight difference from my actual gas fillup and the gauge on the dash..
