Default Possibity of Fitting a V8 into a Z?

I recently read the article in Car and Driver, "V-8 Witchcraft" of the Mallett Car group that installed a LS2 V8(400 HP with 395 lb-ft torque) into a Pontiac Solstice. I was just curious if anyone has stuffed a V8 into a 350Z or has ever thought about it.

Oh... I was just thinking. Since the SRT team is just sticking Hemi V8s into every vehicle they own, would that be possible for a Z?

I never heard about it. I think most people would just turbo'ed their Z. Cheaper and could be tuned to about 400hp.

Wouldn't a turbo charger give you the same if not greater gains for cheaper? I would think it would also be less complicated as well. It would also not change the weight distribution balance of the 350Z.

Top Secret stuffed the VK45 in the G35 coupe, so I'd think you could do the same to the Z

What a coincidence...I have been thinking about stuffing a V8 into the Z. My buddy just opened a performance shop and is looking to use my car as a project car. My ideal setup would be with the LSX series motor, stroked to around 390cubes (a bit under square), have a custom flat plane crank made w/cam, solid roller valvetrain, ported LS7 heads, forged lower end of course, Harrop ITB's, Halltech EM, backed by a T56. Such a set up would be good for about 650whp NA at 7500-8000rpms. Still just wishfull thinking at this point, but I will for sure give it thought when it comes time to either FI the VQ, or throw a different motor in there later this year.

someday down the road it might occur more often, the cost of the car offsets the number of people willing to hack it up.

Gen 1,2 & 3 RX7's you can easily swap a SBF ro SBC into
I've seen several Datsun/SB swaps

I was reading the about an LS6 swap that was done into a gen3 RX7 and after everything was done he had the car cornor balanced and the swap actually brought the car closer to 50/50 weight distro than stock. It was 51-49 front to rear and the entire car only weighed like 65 more pounds!

Like Plumpzzz said, the LS1 is a very light motor. I can guarantee you a 427 LS7 wieghs less than a FI'd VQ, and probably just a little bit more than a stock VQ.

I've wondered the same thing.

Kinda surprised that isn't a "standard" mod. But then I grew up, car-wise, in the 70's, when gear heads were stuffing small blocks into Chevy Vegas.

Believe there are V8 conversion kits available for 240Zs.

I brought this up a couple of years ago and got blasted by posts claiming it was a dumb idea but to me if it does not weigh more thus handles well and give cheap HP, why not?

Tanner Foust is sponsored by Nissan North America for the Formula D drift series this coming 2006 year and it is a full widebodied dark-silver colored 350Z Roadster with a fully built Titan V8 motor, obviously that means it has been and CAN be done...with a significant nominal fee we should all assume haha

Similat thoughts as well. Depending on the desired end results, it coudl be done and maintain drivability. As long as it was an aluminum block and not a V12 or something and enough checkbook you could shove anything in there. Even a 20B rotary.

More than likely you will have to get a custom drive shaft and do some trick linkage for the shifter if not a servo shifter depending upon room and how far back you shove the tranny.
