Default Z Motor supposed to be loud?

Hey all,

When I am in my garage and the sound is bounding off the walls the Z's motor is loud and seems to "clank" a lot. It only does that after the motor is warm. Is this normal? My friend even mentioned it too, said the motor sounded like a diesel motor when it idles.. clank clank...

Sounds like the motor.. When the hood is up, the sound seems to get louder and right at the motor. I could only describe it as a motor without oil. Lots of clanking and noise. Why would the tranny make that much noise? I'm sure if I brought it into Nissan they'd deem the noises "normal" like they did with my popping clutch..

You might want to check your oil level and monitor it for oil consumption...

Ive heard this noise on mine as well, never really bothered me though. It sounds a lot like my 900RR sportbike, I just assumed it to be the the valves like it is on my bike. Can you guys hear your valves ticking at idle?

is it the throwout bearing?

also the injectors are quite loud. some may mistake that with valves tapping.

Push down on the clutch to see if it's not simply the tranny...

Are your muffler bearings tight?

I know what you're talking about. I thought the same thing when I first got my Z. After I installed my exhaust, no more worries because I can't hear anything BUT the exhaust.

At the time did you have the A/C on? If you did then you might be hearing the compressor kicking on and off... thats the only noisy thing under my hood. When my hood is popped and the engine is running I can't help but grin at how perfect it sounds..

No, AC was off. Clutch in or out the motor makes the same noise. When I first start the car cold, the engine sounds smooth. When warmed up the car sounds like a diesel motor. If it's normal, then thats fine. It does not bother me, I've owned Mustangs and other muscle cars, so clanking and noisey motors are not new to me.

But I expected the VQ35 to be a bit more refined..

My 05 base 350z 6sp makes the same noise, but when I pushed down the clutch the noise would stop. NOT to highjack the thread Tzuten, why does the transmission or clutch make so much noise. The car has 8000 miles on it.

Every VQ I have heard makes the same sort of ticking sound. Pretty sure it's the tranny some how.

It's the tranny or the muffler bearings. You might need a new flux capacitor though.
