Default 93 Octane Requirement

Is it really manditory that you use 93 Octane with the Z? I haven't used anything below that, but was just wondering if its detrimental to the engine to use any other octane. Thanks.

The engine is in the Z is performance tuned and therefore requires 93 octane fuel. If you don't use it, I think you'll probably notice some valve knocking and performance loss.

I've never seen 91 Octane before. Where can you find it? What particular gas station?

California is down to 91. Was 92 for a long time, but they lowered it a few years ago per emissions regulations. Don't know about other states.

There are several properties of octane. One is a fuel’s ability to resist pre-ignition (or knocking). The higher the octane, the higher the resistance to pre-ignition. So run 91 octane plus.

And no, 93 will not make your car go faster than 89.

exactly, its not that much different money wise just use the best.

If you fill up your entire tank once a week, it will only cost you $8 a month more than 91 octane. I dont think that $8 will break your wallet.

Premium fuel with a minimum of 91 oct is required. Ive tried 87 by mistake and it had knocking. There is only 93 oct around here. It seems my Z likes BP brand.

I never could undrestand how octane ratings effected emissions, you think it would be opposite since cars run better on higher octane that they would be more efficient. There should be only one grade of fuel everywhere, a high detergent/high octane gasoline.

the higher your compression rating the higher you need in octane to get past ping or knock, if you go to high in octane, i.e. cam2 racing fuel on a normal car, you don't actually "use it" and you end up with much higher emisions, and possibly red hot headers

Really, nothing. This took like 10 seconds and I only searched for 93 octane not for gas or octane in general.
