1 month later we get a bill... that is DOUBLE the difference between the Xterra and the Z.
What i'm wondering, is when I went to State Farm, and I signed the papers for my policy, I had to make the first payment right then and there. Its not like an electricity bill, where you pay for the month that you just used. You pay your premium, and then your good to go for that month(i.e. the next 30 days).

I've never even heard of getting your first premium bill in the mail 30 days later. Not that i'm calling BS on this, but it seems a little odd to me.

I didn't just make a policy with State Farm either. I have had it since I was 16, with 2 different cars and a motorcycle (was only vehicle currently on there). But I had to pay my monthly $175 premium for the first month, right then and there.

Too common.... Makes me think the agents lowball so you are stuck with them and they charge what they want to charge.

What agency was this with? I had this fiasco with a local office of Farm Bureau.

Here is the main problem... I was in person at their office talking to their full time rep and gave her the VIN number and the make/model. This was the second time they gave us the quote, the first time was on the phone before the purchase.
They also did not notify me of the increase before the bill came.
I find it hard to believe the systems can not distinguish an already flagged vehicle for a quote...

You are assuming this is a new policy, which it is not. They sent a bill for the difference between the X and the Z for the remainder of the policy. They also sent a breakdown which alerted me to the monthly rate.

State Farm. They claim that my car was rated as a 23 in 2005 and then jumped to a 28 in 2006. Their rating system on how much it costs to fix damages or whatever.

sort of multi car discount I guess... had another car then sold it, then put my son on my ins, he sold that, then got another... My rate didn't change for the z or previous car. One thing I tell them is a low yearly milage (<8k) and a short distance to/from work (<4miles). This is true for me but I remember asking what if it was higher, of course the price went up...

Guys just because someone pays x amount of dollars in one state doesn't mean you'll get the same rate in another state. As a matter of fact insurance is based off your driving record, age, # of cars, if your a home owner, if you've had previous insurance, your zip code, etc. Best thing to do is call a few brokers and have them compete for your business. I'm a General Manager for a few agencies so trust me when I say shop around. Don't be shy to ask what coverages your paying for either.

State: PA, Esurance.com

778 every 6mos
300/100K coverage
100 comprehensive ded
500 collision ded
Limited tort

04 350z and 05 Accord EXL Navi

It was twice as much when I was with GEICO.. then I switched..

Note: don't cancel your previous insurance until your new policy is underwritten and you receive the actual signed policy documents which proves that quote has been locked in. They try this on unsuspecting customers. I made sure I had all my paperwork and faxed them what they wanted... They sat on it for 3 weeks (tring to find a way to increase my rates i think)... then gave me my contract...

I'm sure it will go up in 6 mos, by then I'm moving to a new address anyway...

I pay $2700/year, I'm 24 with 1 ticket. And I'm in the SF Bay Area (CA) to top it off where I'm sure rates are high here compared to the rest of the country

Alright guys... I got this licked...

On the advice of a finance rep, I completed a quote with Safeco.com. He says they are reliable and they have quoted me $7 per month more than my Xterra was with my old company.... thats $414.80 per 6mo for "healthy coverage".
Thats without my home on the policy as a discount.

I have an insurance broker shopping for it as well. I cant imagine beating that quote

Find another insurance company. All I have to do with my ins. is tell them I'm thinking about looking around and my rates come down, . If they didn't I'd go somewhere else, haha.

Yep...you did the right thing. In the future, when something like this happens, simply tell them that you're taking your business elsewhere. Usually that will get them to honor their quote. But frankly, if they're playing games like that, you're better off moving to a new company anyhow.

Default Update on insurance coverage 1 year later

I went with a local insurance broker that shops coverage for me annually. We have an A+++ provider through the brokerage that covers both new 2006 vehicles (350Z and Nismo Frontier) with a 300k CSL comprehesive for $126mo.

When we prepay this year, we get a 10% discount and our effective montly rate for both vehicles is ~ $112mo. !!!

You guys need due diligence when shopping insurance. The saying goes it's easier to get something when you already have it applies. Go to a reputible insurance brokerage and let them shop it out for you. It could mean the difference in paying that money to an insurance company or toward a new set of wheels or turbo kit.
