Default It is in!! and I am bummed...

Because the dealer ordered the WRONG color interior and NO SIDE AIRBAGS. I ordered it early November.

Sheesh. I got so excited when the guy called me today and told me it was in. I made the appointment to pick it up tomorrow, but asked if I could look at it on the way home tonight.

I ordered DB touring, Frost, kick plates, mats, side airbags and aero. What I got was a DB touring with graphite interior, no airbags and freaking SPLASH guards on the car. My heart sank.

But I called my friends and the more I think about it I can live with the interior and probably will end up taking the car because it looked so DAMN good when I saw tonight.

oh well...
Don't know who screwed up but we will find out when the money talks begin tomorrow.

Later,
Drake.

The car you thought you ordered should be findable if you look. Have you talked to the dealer about possibly finding your car somewhere else?

I know I saw two pretty much identical to that several weeks ago when I was still looking, in fact, there was one posted here on the classified forum in Detroit (minus aero, which could be added). I didn't go with that one due to my wanting the graphite interior.

If I were you, I'd see if I could get EXACTLY what I ordered. Chances are, you'll be able to locate one within about a week. Don't settle....that would suck.

Mannish,

I ordered through a car-buying service actually, which relayed my specifications to the dealer. (Got a deal when no one was dealing.)

I am talking with both parites tomorrow. I will make a final decision then, but the more I think about it the more I think graphite will work just fine. It is really the side airbags that **** me off since it is a safety option instead of purely cosmetic.

Thanks - will let you know happens and post pics.

Sorry to hear about the mistake. Why are so many so called professionals incompetent in this world?

You can always add the aero later. But I wouldn't take the car without side airbags. Who knows - this decision could cost you serious injury or death someday. I would have them work their asses off to find you an acceptable car at another dealer and do a swap. If that fails, call around yourself; I bet you get lucky.

You're better off without the airbags, IMHO.

ponder that

And maybe you could explain that. Only thing I could think of was the $569 you save.

Everytime someone mentions side air bags I think of Jeremy's car and how "effective" they weren't when he was hit in the side. Jeremy's car

Here's the entire thread with a lot of discussion about side airbags (if interested): My car is totaled...

I think the graphite interior blows away the frost anyway!

And, wow, I wouldn't even consider one without the splash guards!

That's funny!
I like the car you got much better than the one you ordered. I'd be happy!

I think they all come from the factory with splash guards already installed whether you order them or not. At least that was the case a while back.

Well, Thank you for all your opinions and advice.

I appreciate it. I called friends and family. After talking with all I decided the interior color was not that large of an issue. The charcoal makes everything look dark since it has no glass in the roof, but I like how you can see contrasting stitching and the orange in the holes. It looks classic and refined inside. Plus my practical family made sense in the fact that darker interiors are easier to maintain and probably will look better in the long term.

Airbags. Well, the airbag option was almost the deal breaker. For one thing, my safety. I really beleive in this technology's ability to save lives and decrease the risk of serious injury. Especially side mounted and head curtain airbags. Unfortunately, I do remember the thread mentioned above and cannot see how the airbags on that Lemans Z did NOT deploy. Nissan engineers should investigate that crash.

A large issue that cropped up almost last minute was that I researched our board and found that some users were reporting a 20% discount on insurance because of the addition of the side airbag option. I called my agent and State Farm will let me save a total of $3.44 a year by adding the Nissan side airbag option. Issue is moot. If it had been significant I would have made the dealer eat the cost of insurance saving accumulated over 5 years if they wanted me to take the car.

I called the broker back (who was very sympathetic toward the situation) and told him the deal was on. After all, considering all things the only thing the car was missing was the airbags. (Fresh off the truck with 6 miles on it.) And this was reflected in the price I was paying. I hope I don't regret not having those in the car later on, but I also drive a 93 4runner which has no airbags at all. I wear my seatbelts all the time and most friends consider me a conservative/attentive driver.

I went to the dealer, met the car broker there and we stole a table and finished our paperwork. The dealer (sales manager) was treating me like crap. I can only assume because he screwed up the order, knew it and knew I was mad. He did not shake my hand nor want to talk to me. Probably because I arranged to get the car at much lower than the MSRP+2500 market adjustment they had on the other 2 Z's which were on his lot. They did not wash the car, which was covered with salt dust from the nearby road. They did not remove the plastic on many of the interior parts. They hardly prepped it at all. They did stick a temp tag on it and heeded my many requests sent through the broker NOT to put a front plate on it. The broker had to go back inside the dealer and ask to get a tank of gas for me. It was empty and the low gas warning was on. They sent out the car tech. He said he would take it and fill it up. I was already in the drivers seat and told him to get in and I will drive to fill it up.

After driving the car I am extremely pleased.

Here is a pic of the new Baby

Thanks again all!
Drake.

It sucks that your dealer was such a POS. Trust me though, when nissan calls you or mails you that survey, make sure to stick it to them.. those things make a BIG difference believe it or not and your dealer would get upset if you told him you gave him bad marks. Nissan makes a big deal over those surveys, my dealer told me as much and to please give him good marks, but I didnt give him all good marks cause he stuck me with the front licence plate after i told him not to. As for the car wash, if you are a car care freak, you dont want it from the dealer, as much as they like to say they use clean stuff, they are not of the right quality and will scratch your finish. The interior part does suck though, that should have been immaculate.

As long as you don't have navigation, they should be able to find an exact match from somewhere else...

I had a somehow similar situation, I ordered mine at the beginning of November. They said I would have it in mid-March. 2 weeks ago I called to check on the status and they said the order did not go through (allocation issues...). Since I specifically asked for navigation it would be hard for them to find one in the US but luckily they found an exact match on harbor in Japan ready to be shipped so now I can get it at the end of februry. They may try to do the same thing in the wordt case since it's their mistake. Good luck.

Of course the dealer treated you like crap - you went through a broker instead of the dealer, so the dealer makes $0. To him, you're just taking him time and money.

Anyway, let it go - your car is GORGEOUS! Woo!!

The dealer doesn't make "0". They possibly have a prenegotiated profit margin that is smaller than the average they'd get, but they make something.

Car brokers get a fee from the dealer but it certainly does not eliminate dealer profit.

Drake, your the only guy besides me I've seen here that used a broker. I won't buy a car any other way but others seem to have a hard time grasping the concept. Care to comment on why you used a broker & were (are) you glad you did?
