Where did you guys get the notion I'm 16? I'm a high school graduate, so I'm obviously older than 16 (I turned 18 about 6 months ago).

a standard tranmission isn't THAT hard, and I know enough to feel stupid for buying an automatic in a sports car. However the manual I played with was a celica supra and the person who taught me had me double clutching. As I read up on transmissions and synchros I was just wondering if that eliminated the need to double clutch.

Oh...18 and a half.

Still too young to legally buy a drink, can't vote, and still can't drive a stick shift. Do you have any plans for college, or is daddykins setting you up in the family business as Senior VP in charge of paper clips?

last time I checked you could vote at 18.

And with that vietnam picture, what's up with the guy wearing three hats stacked on top of each other, in the bottom right? Does he think he'll look three times as cool?

Come on guys, be nice. I know quite a few twenty-somethings that can't drive a manual. At least Mavel2ick is asking questions and wanting to learn.

Mavel2ick,
You're gonna get some heat with posts that indicate you're waiting on mom&dad's success so that you can have a nice car. That was why I suggested you keep that background to yourself. It's for your own good. It is of course up to you though.

That car should have a synchro gearbox, however a lot of them did have problems with the syncros going out on them. Depends on the year.

I wouldnt chose a Z being a young kid and as your first manual trans, for the sake of the other drivers on the road. Just be careful, and take it easy.

Listen to Lemans350, otherwise you will end up like the other 18 year old on this board who had his 350z hanging from some telephone pole guy down wires

When the keys are in your hand, I will be the first to giver you a big 350Z-hug. But as it stands now, this is just a pipe dream.

iirc, the first "Supra" was a high trim level "Celica" called the "Celica Supra." Later, the Supra became its own model.

If he actually said that I would agree, but come on, all he said was he was getting it for graduation... Don't be such a hater

Ya it sux that some 18 year old is going to be given his 350Z, but I know I'll have more pride driving around in one I bought with my own money and definitely will appreciate it a lot more...

+1 on the immature vs. mature
just asking for abuse!

you make a good point because most of us who think we know how to drive
a manual are truly amateurs at best. a manual can be faster than an auto if
you are experienced or it can be hella slow.

honestly i commend Mavel2ick for opting to go manual when he could easily
just go auto. i wish i had the support of a forum like this when i was learned
to drive a manual. it was painful for both me and the car...

i won't even mention which car i had while learning...
