yep...my parents have had GEICO for almost 25years now...flawless record with no accidents. Im currently under my dads name (but I pay my portion)...so even full coverage for a 2004 Z shouldn't be THAT bad right?

who knows, its depending on your record and zip code mostly. if you want to save some money do a $1000 deductible. i saved ~15% on my insurance going from a $250-$500 deductible. you sound like you have some money so its not like you cant afford it if you get in a wreck. and the deductible only applies when you use your collision to fix your car or your comprehensive.

good luck with it, youre doing the right thing. its usually only smart to do just pip when the car is worth so little that youd pay more than the value of the car in insurance in a short amount of time like 2-3 years. in which case you might as well self-insure.

As long as you don't have any tickets on your record. I'm thinking $175 a month with the $1000 ded as the previous poster suggested. Just make sure to check how much you are really saving to go from say a $500 ded to $1000.
For me it wasn't worth the little I saved.

Did a work up on the Progressive site based on 15-30-50 with $500,1000,2500 deductable for a 20 year old in my zip with no tickets or accidents. I am in a expensive zip. I also made sure there was $5000 per accident of medical insurance quoted.
This of course is for a six month policy.

$1000 ded
Custom
$192.28
per month-- or --
$1,148.90
paid in full

$500 ded
Custom
$219.28
per month-- or --
$1,310.90
paid in full

$2500 ded
Custom
$184.44
per month-- or --
$1,101.90
paid in full

It looks like $1000 ded makes the most sense.... It generally does.
Now all of this is if you go out and get your own insurance without your parents. If you tag on their policy it should be cheaper because you'll get multiple car discounts etc.... and no, I'm not an insurance agent.

What is interesting about the 350Z is it only cost me like $10 more per month to insure over my 1984 300ZX Turbo. I think the turbo is what messed up the rate. When I found out it wasn't going to be twice what I was paying for my 300ZX I was stoked.

really appreciate the research you dug up for me man...thanks alot.

As for tickets...eh...=/...I have 1. It was a "failure to signal" ticket when I had my prelude about 2 months ago. Im fighting it because the reality of the matter was that my indicator was on...somehow the cop didnt see it. So yea Im fighting it...would that violation have a big impact on insurance?

Maybe not, however see if you can go to driving school. If you can the ticket won't be reported to insurance or on your record as a conviction.

If you get a second ticket in three years your rate will probably go up however unless you go to school, then you would need that third ticket to make two show up on your record. That's when they ding you most of the time.
