Default burning plastic/rubber smell coming from my engine bay

seems to be coming from the air filter area of the engine. if you go to the left side, as youre facing the engine bay, you cant really smell it. but the farther over to the right and when you get to the air filter it starts getting stronger.
smells like plastic or something along those lines. started on sat night and happens when the engine gets warm. on short trips i havent noticed it yet.
took it to the dealer and they said its either it hasnt been driven in a while, which it gets driven every day, or its my clutch going out. i dont see how it could be nothing, or the one thing thats not covered on warranty. seems fishy to me. oh yeah btw why is the clutch not covered under warranty?
this car has only 27k miles on it so im surprised the clutch is going out already. anyone else clutch burned out on their 350? i am the second owner though so i guess the previous owner could have driven like **** but i know in the 7k miles ive had it for that the clutch going out is not from me.
anyone know of anything else this could be? im taking it to a diff dealer on tues, when i get back from the weekend, to see what they say.
btw dealer quoted me 735 to replace the clutch

I have this problem to I'v been meaning to leave it running to figure out if its the clutch or actually something burning. because its smells like its comming from under the engin, I can smell it more near my tires.

Yeah I know what you guys are talkin' about. I just got my Z. I've smelled this before when I test drove an AT a couple years back...so I can't imagine it being the clutch. It does smell like plastic/rubber...sorta new car smell rolled into it. I have no clue..but I am pretty sure it is normal. Wish more people would chime in here.

I believe it has something to do with the headers/exhaust. My car has the smell when new and has it now whenever I gun it, and I don't think it's the clutch burnning either, because I've driven my dad's AT Ford, and it makes the same smell.
