Default Does the rear-view mirror ever block your forward vision?

At times I feel the rear-view mirror is directly in my line of site and therefore impedes my vision. For example, being at an intersection, the mirror sometimes hides pedestrians or a car making a left hand turn into opposing traffic. Anyone else have this problem?

I was talking to some lotus elise guys awhile back, and one of their mods was replacing the OEM rearview mirror with something much less substantial. Has anyone done a mod like this?

I have homelink, so the rearview mirror is pretty substantial, but had the same problem on an '05 Z without homelink.

Not sure if it makes a difference, but I'm 6'2-6'3 and like to keep the seat-back pretty upright.

Actually, I think the car is pretty roomy. I wouldn't mind a tad more headroom, but feel there is plenty of legroom. There was another thread in which people much taller than me fit in the car without a problem.

I have the same problem with the rearview mirror blocking my vision. Im 6'4", and its a bit of a pain at intersections because I have to duck my head down to try and see if there are any pedestrians coming.

^^^^ Interesting, I need to try that. I'm, only 5'9" but the RM still gets in the way. Maybe I need to messwith the seat adjustments more...

Yep, the rear view mirror is very "in the way" for me. And worse than that, if I place it as high as possible to get it out of my field of vision, it becomes almost worthless as a rear view mirror because of the low roofline at the back window. Sometimes, being tall isn't a good thing.

I'm with all of them... the homelink is nice, but it takes up like an inch of vision in that direction. I've heard of flipping it upside down, but I haven't tried that yet. What's worse for me is when I'm on an onramp and I'm trying to look ahead for traffic and the mirror blocks all my vision.

yea.. do the flipping it upside-down thing.. also you can adjust the rearview mirror up and down physically.. like you can push the whole thing up toward the roof of the car or pull down to lower it.. if you didn't understand what i said, you may get it if you take a look at the back of the mirror from outside or underneath

Do they do this on all model years? I have an '03 with the Homelink mirror.

I have this problem with the mirror and the passengers side sun-visor, which my wife insists on flipping down almost every time we get into any car. I'm tall enough that the combination of the mirror and the visor effectively eliminates the right half of the windshield. I guess that because I'm so tall, I very seldom have a need to use the sun visor, the wife just needs it more often.

i'm pretty sure all mirrors can do this.. i hav a 03 DB Touring MT and i read that somewhere and decided to try it.. and apparently, my old car can do it also.. didn't kno that.. but yes.. i think most, if not all, cars have the mirrors that can be moved up or down and on some, upside-down too

Yup. I'm 6'0" and I have to make sure at a four way stop I look under the mirror. If you are tired or distracted it is easy to forget. I like my car way to much to complain about that though Seriously, I have never thought of it as much of a problem. I have noticed that it depends on the type of vehicle stopped at the right of me. I would think it would be a big problem if it was the A pillars or something bad in the rear as far as blind spots but it just takes a little extra effort to check under the mirror. I've only had a problem at 4 way stops. Much more serious in your experience??

I have problems with the RM also. It's not just how tall you are but how much you incline the seat back. 5'11". Only half the mirror is useable; way to wide and way to tall for the area of the rear glass you can see anything through. I had a '66 Dodge Charger with the same type rear glass and it had the mirror mounted on the dash. This setup was great after the intitial learning curve.

Cool I'm going to try this. I've probably looked at the mirror mount 10 times over the past few years wondering if it can be adjusted. I never tried because I have this image of me ripping the mirror off the windshield.
