i test drove a 6 spd m3 and to be honest i wasnt impressed. yeah it had a nice interior and yeah it was a bmw, but it was $60k. it didnt feel that fast and the salesman said they feel alot faster after 7k miles or something like that. if someone offered me a m3 or a z for free id take the m3 and sale it, buy a z and put 30k into it. but if u want it, go for it. u only live once.

Why don't you just get a Z7 M3 AMG (or whatever they call it). I mean V8 vert monster. That's one BMW car I might look into.
I guess there is a Z8 as well. Nice .... very nice !
I looked at the Z4 M Coupe.... I kinda like that. I mean 343HP. It might be a fun car. Still if it's close the price of a Z06 .... The Vette is my choice.

Do not get the M3 in currently have one and it was the biggest mistake of my life to buy it! Oil change $65 from dealer after 3 mounths started leaking oil $2000 all mods are extrely expensive ex. rear spoiler $1500!!! Rough as hell as a daily driver if you have any bumps or pot holes on any of your roads you will find them real quick the suspension is so stiff its rediculous! I would stick with the 350z or swap it for a manual. These are the reasons im switching to a z. The M3 is horrible in traffic that will be your worst nightmare all the M3 want to is have its throttle hammered and taken to the track its not ment for a daily traffic driver!

M3 is my dream car. Couldn't afford one, so the Z was my next best choice (and the most bang for your buck that I could afford).
I say if you have the wherewithall to get it, then go for it and enjoy!

About the other models you mentioned. AMG is mercedes and only comes with an automatic. Z8 is a 400hp coupe which has been discontinued, but for good examples, the prices are holding steady at around 100K.
The base price of an M3 is around 48K. Mildly and comfortably equipped models can be had for around $55K. Used prices for '02 and now '03s I believe are in the $30K range.

The 350z is the best value of an sports car in that performance range but the M3 is the best value in its performance range. And it is just so refined... It kinda sucks becuase I just bought the Z in nov 05. I just hope I can still get 30K for it.

I can't live with the manual, but the SMG delivers the best of both worlds. You can run through the gears (and Im sure it will shift faster and better than any human 80milsec) but there is no clutching. Its is an electro Hydro actuated clutch, attached to the manual 6 speed tranny. The best part is that you can swith it to an automated mode and it will shift for you if you would like. So to sum it up, it is a manual tranny with and automatic mode. And the M3 is in a power class above the 350z.

Ok, first of all, buying an M3 now a scant six months before the M5-V10 derived V8 M3 arrives is a plain stupid decision. You will have an older body style BMW that can scarcely outrun a Z with minor mods etc...and that SMG is chock full of problems...ignore what the dealer says and do some actual research to find out for yourself. Secondly...free oil changes and maintainance sound nice, and thats IF you get a new one; but keep in mind that traditionally the M3 and the X5 were the two most warrentied vehicles since their inception...and the loner car is usually a MINI, not an M3...so you had better like those as well. Finally...talking to someone who has purchased a new BMW product (2003 X5 4.4i) and had the transmission drop gears two weeks later, you couldn't pay me to drive one.
