Please help...car turned off while on hwy
i was driving about 80-85mph and about to exit then my car suddenly turned off. luckily i was able to steer all the way to the right but i noticed the steering and was stiff and it was harder to break. i also saw the ses light, oil light(looks like a genie bottle???), and battery light all turn on at the same time at the bottom of the rpm dial a sec be4 my car turned off. what the heck is going on, i was on a slight turn to, luckily nobody was close enough for me to crash into. my only mod is a pop charger, could this be it but i've had it for 6 months with no problems. somebody please help!!!

What model and year do you have? And I think the stiff steering wheel is because if you're car dies, so does your power steering....but I've heard that happens to some cars...might want to check jwt popcharger thread...luckily no problems so car w/ me.

No they did have some type of recalls for the 2003 model for this problem. Make: NISSAN
Model: 350Z
Type: ANY
Year: 2003
Recall Number: 03V455000
Summary:
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE CIRCUIT BOARD FOR THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR OR CAM POSITION SENSOR MAY HAVE AN IMPROPER SOLDER JOINT DUE TO SOLDER DEFORMATION CAUSED BY HEAT STRESS ACCELERATED BY THE EXISTENCE OF FLUX RESIDUE DURING THE SOLDERING PROCESS.
Consequence:
THIS COULD CAUSE THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" WARNING LIGHT TO COME ON, CREATE A NO START CONDITION, CAUSE REDUCED ENGINE POWER, OR CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STOP RUNNING WITHOUT WARNING DURING VEHICLE OPERATION, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE CRANK POSITION SENSORS. CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR(S), AND IN SOME CASES, THE VARIABLE TIMING CONTROL SENSOR(S). VEHICLES INVOLVED IN A PREVIOUS RECALL CAMPAIGN, 01V357, ARE ALSO INCLUDED IN THIS NEW CAMPAIGN. THE REPLACEMENT SENSORS USED IN THAT CAMPAIGN ARE ALSO AFFECTED. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON DECEMBER 22, 2003. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261 OR INFINITI AT 1-800-662-6200.
Notes:
NISSAN RECALL NO. R3022/INFINITI RECALL NO. R3021. CUSTOMERS CAN ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION’S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).

Just looking at the title I guessed you had a popcharger.

Yep, mine did this the other day when i was going 100mph+ i meant to put it in 6th and just let it rev down, but instead i put it in neutral, the engine stalled, but picked itself back up. This really isnt all that common to Z's alone, my buddies MKIV supra did this at high speeds. I just make sure that if i am doing anything over 80 i keep it in a gear.

pop charger
Often people install it incorrectly and causes the Mass Air Flow sensor to foul up. If that's the case, it's either
1. too much oil on filter, oil migrated to sensor
2. Filter is not completely sealed, junk got in between the gaps.

3. Or they don't line up the arrows on the assembly. There is two arrows that need to be lined up or it screws up air flow.

It might be the crank posistion sensor which basically tells the car its time to turn on or off. This happened to me a couple times in my M3. The steering was probably stiff because you lost all power to the car which means you lost power steering. Or popcharger like everyone else said

ALMOST happened to me 2 days after popcharger install at > the speed limit. I went to shift from 5-6 and missed the shift causing it to stick into neutral. Luckily, I clutched again and put it back into 5th and the car kept running...
Like mentioned, at speeds > 55 I would not put the car into neutral.

If this does happen at speed, depress the clutch, shift in to desired gear, release the clutch and the car will come back to life. Way to dangerous to try to steer and brake with no power...get that engine started again as soon as possible.
