Manual Transmissions are a double edge sword.

Sure its fun shifting yourself when you have open roads or your flying up some mountain roads, but it sucks ***** if your stuck in heavy traffic on a regular basis.

Try driving your friends MT and see what you think...

i told the salesman that and he said he can give me like a 1 hour class on how to drive one and we could even do it on one that I didn't buy to help save the clutch if I bought it through him. My city I live in is one of the fastest growing in the nation and the streets are about 5 years behind in traffic flow, that is why it is so stop and go. There isn't many open roads here in south florida to have fun on like that

Might as well get a stick because sooner or later all we're going to have are DSG's, SMG, etc.

I had an Auto 350z for about 3 months traded it in for a manual, and i never looked back. I bought a Acura Integra Manual just to learn how to drive a stick thats when I decided to get a stick. An then sold the acura to a friend freaking Hona Lovers h4r h4r h4r. like I said, "I never looked back" =P

Sequential Manual Gearbox and Direct Selection Gearbox. The new style manuals which can also be driven as automatics. Feel free to correct me someone if I'm wrong. Nothing wrong with those transmissions besides the fact they're less involving. You get instant shifts with each one.

Yep. I'm going to hold on to my old-fashioned MT as long as I can. Not to say that my other car won't have a DSG.

I've driven a stick for 12 years... mitsubishi starion turbo, celica mazda 6, 4runner.. It's more fun to drive a stick, but auto is heaven in traffic. I hate these lame azz manual driving wannabes thinking stick is a hundred times faster and greater. After awhile, you wise up and see the advantages of both. Remeber, auto has a manual mode that has a slight latency.

the essence of driving a sports car is to drive it with manual transmission. it's really not that hard to drive stick, just a matter of practice...

First off, real men drive stick. Second, if you know how to drive stick, you shouldn't be able to tell the difference between stick and auto. Lastly, car is much much much faster with the stick.

I don't even remember how to drive auto anymore. If I drive my GFs auto car, when I come to a stop I freak out when I put my left foot down and there is no clutch pedal. Keep thinking I'm going to stall. Point is driving manual becomes second nature like you don't know any other way. So, when I'm in heavy traffic, which I am alot, I don't know the difference anymore.
New auto trannies with manual mode probably come pretty close to the real manual shifting without having to actually work a clutch. This puts them very close performance wise and the auto maybe even better because the launch is simply pushing your right foot down on the gas. I just like having three pedals, revmatching, etc
Also the Z is a VERY forgiving manual to drive as are most new cars. My 95 Toyota corolla is less forgiving cause it has NO torque.

I'm having the same problem, I wana learn how to drive manual... I've done it like twice, but how do I test drive it? I test drove an AUTO 06 and loved it, but I DEF want a manual. You think 2 or 3 days to get used to it and maybe a month to master it?

if you dont think you can or want to drive a manual you are buying the wrong car. G35's are much more comfortable to drive.

i drive an automatic Z. its totally lovely.
people always ask me why i bought an automatic sportscar. i just say i felt like it.

people sometimes make the comment "real men drive stick", but i dont subscribe to that notion.

i also learned how to drive stick on my Z...my friend let me practice on her altima at first coz i had a hard time with the clutch in the Z...she took it while i drove hers for two days. it is alot of fun driving stick...and it does become second nature - everytime i drive my mom's murano i freak out coz i can't find the clutch when slowing down to a stop... and i get irritated when trying to start it up and i'm stepping on air trying to find the clutch.

give it a try...you'll probably like it - and it's great for taking the boredom and monotony out of traffic jams. besides, you 'feel' the car and get to know it better...

Florida is flat. You should be ok.

Driving a stick is one thing. PARKING a stick shift car (parallel, on a hill), that's something else.
