I've never driven a stick, and don't necessarily like the feel at all of riding in one. How hard is it to pick up driving a stick on a Z ? My buddy has an 04 Sentra and was going to teach me to drive on his car but I dont know. I just had riding in cars that people drive stick in because it is to jerky. I prefer the smoother ride that auto's provide. Please don't bash or talk crap, im just stating how I feel and want so productive advice!

If you ride with someone who REALLY knows how to drive a MT, (as opposed to someone who thinks they can just because they can get the car to move) you shouldn't be able to feel a difference between MT and Auto.
Look I was faced with the same problem when I was getting my Z at the begining it was horrible because I didn't know how to drive stick but after a couple of weeks got the hang of it and then after about a month of continously driving the ride stopped being jerky. Hey personally I thank god that I chose stick because its a hell of a lot more fun then auto
MT is the way to go!! It's a lot more fun to drive than AT. I learned to drive stick with the Z too. I agree it wasnt as easy as other MT cars though..cos you will need to get used to the high clutch design and also the jerky 1st and 2nd gear. But it can be learn and get used to with lots of practice!! So, Good luck and hope u have fun with the MT!! And once you get the key point of driving the Z, then you will be able to drive it like an AT. It's all controlled by your right hand and 2 feets after all..

Manual / Stick is more of a drivers car.
You control the gears...you get to play with the power.
It is much more fun and you fell in more control once you get used to it.
BUT...
there are times when I'm sitting on the 405 for hours and I never get past second gear.
I'd much rather have an auto on those days.

I talked my sister into getting a stick when she bought her first car (Jetta) and she had no clue how to drive one when she signed the papers, she couldn't even drive it home. We practiced for about 5 hours that weekend and she had it. Now she can drive stick better than most guys I know.

wow thats awesome, if i knew for sure i would be able to drive it really smooth, then I probably wouldn't have a problem...i have 2 or 3 friends that have been driving for years and it sucks so much riding with them...but the one who wants to teach me feels like your riding in an automatic when he drives!

When I ordered my Z about a month ago, I test drove an 06 6MT. That was the first time that I have driven one in about 5 years (the last time was my friends Firebird), so I dont have any valuable experience at all. It wasnt as bad as I was expecting. Granted, I was a little nervous driving the Z, let alone having the dealer in the car with me. The only problem I had was leaving the dealership (the exit was on an incline), and shifting into 2nd. The shifts were a little jerky, but the dealer said that I was letting out the cluth too fast. I'm sure if you have the opportunity to take the car in a parking lot for 30 mins, you can get the hang of starting off smoothly. Just practice, and avoid high congested roads for the first week or so. I'm getting mine in less than a month from now, so I'll be going through the same thing. Luckily, there arent many lights between the dealership and my parking lot for where I work (thats where I'm going to go practice) and its mostly highway.
Just take your time, and dont get frustrated. If you have any questions on learning, just ask. There are plenty of helpful people here.
i dont know dude, you seem to have your mind made up. if you dont like the "jerky" feel of a stick driven car and you dont think it will be as fun to have to work to get the car to move around then get the auto. let someone who will enjoy driving a manual buy that one.
