i think if it was racing from a dig, there would be a bigger difference than up top since weight matters less. if you race an 06 to a 03 or 04 from a dig, i think the pre 06 would take the jump, or so i think anyways. less torque and more weight. up top the extra ponies should make up the weight difference. honestly i could care less which engine responses to NA mods... ive given up on anything NA on this car. now if the 06 responds better to FI... now thats something i mite be jealous about. thats baout it.

I for one have never thought of the Z's interior as cheap looking, I mean ****, go look at a mistubishi, yeah there is a lot of plastic, but like you said, if you want leather and luxury, get a G35 lol.

Personally, I havent had any rattles in my car, one that I caused when I removed the rear windsheild wiper, but I just had to pop a plastic bolt in all the way, all of us know that there are alot more sound deadening material in the newer Z, again personally I never have had a problem with road noise, but if thats something you did have a prob with and are ok with the extra weight (which it seems you are) then the 06 is for you. I just dont like how you are kind of implying anything previous to 06 are junk. And like nissan said, they didnt orignally make the tranny so soft smoothing because you lose feel, I like the feel of the 05 tranny, but again its all personal preference, I wanted a pretty pure sports car (not as much as an elise) and the Z is a great pure sports car that doesnt beat on you hard, and is big enough to be comfortable.
I never said nor tried to imply anything about pre 06 models being junk. Had I thought it was junk I would've never bought one. Your taking it too personal. One thing I absolutely hated about the previous models was the cheap looking plastic console. The material used in the newer model is much better thus giving it a more quality feel and the navi door isn't as floppy anymore either. These little things can add up the level of refinement. One thing that really annoyed me was how the stereo was a different color from the console color surrounding it. It looked horrendous to me. I quickly replaced that with an Eclipse 6.5 in screen, so that was taken care of. I'm not sure if you've seen all the differences. Its not that drastic of a change but its a step up IMO. I definitely did not mean to put others cars down and I apologize if it came off like that.....more than anything I just enjoy comparing my 04 to the 06 and more importantly its just my opinion. I tend to be very picky with stuff like this...

I have drove all previous years but I have not driven an 06 yet. Guess I will how if I feel a difference in about 7 weeks when my 06 350Z is supposed to arrive. I know people may say I should have test drove an 06 before ordering but I loved all of the others I test drove and I drove 6 different ones from a base coupe to grand touring roadsters. I dont think I will be able to tell a difference personally but I know I will be able to tell a difference from my 05 Acura RSX Type S. I will be smiling for weeks when it gets here.

The '06 might feel a tad different, though, after you've broken it in. I'm assuming you drove a brand spankin' new model off the floor, right?

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, the clutch on the Touring was significantly stiffer than the Base. Any guesses on that?
The 06 is nicer than the 05, but I ended up not trading my 05 for an 06 because I didn't believe the 06 was $120/mo nicer.
going from my 03' 11k to 06' cant tell any tranny differences, no perceptable steering feel/ weight diference.. like powerband better and the minor updates.

i mainly switched because it was financially better situation for me.

besides each car is individual. even if made same year and brand new... just the way it is. they have 2 zilion parts and they are not all exactly the same so why should the end cars be?

you just cant expect all cars of same years and dates to feel exactly the same...

i love my current Z, i liked my 03 verry much also (was more customized)

I'm trading in my 05 ZR touring for an 06 GT coupe next month (already signed the papers). Why am I switching? Because I don't want to kill myself in my roadster when I add the twin turbos. I think the 05 interior looks great and I never once thought of it as cheap looking. I sat in an 06 ZR at the Seattle Auto Show and it was nicer I must admit. Just think of the 06 as more refined.

Yah, it really did feel like the tranny had better gear meshing. My 05 shifts into gear over something that feels like a speed bump, where as the 06s that I tested felt more like abrupt little hills in the road. And with the throttle more on a curve response instead of a linear (only my theory, not confirmed), it takes away more of the effect of pressing the gas just a little bit too much too early and feeling the car kick you in the *** just a little bit, what I call driver error. It's not that the 06 clutch engages smoother, but that the feathering of the throttle as you engage the clutch in the next gear is not as critical, allowing the driver more room for error on how much throttle to give. I know because I can make my 05 clutch engage just as smooth as I did with the 06, but I have to concentrate a little bit harder on lightly pressing the throttle upon clutch release.
