My new 350z and a good question for you all
I got a 350z like a week ago its a 2003 that had 28,000 miles. I have a question though i Opened the engine bay and the engine block? (the ceramic looking piece on top of the engine behind the plastic) looks kinda rusted i guess? I dont think its rusted its more of a discolored look. Check it out and give me ideas of what you think it could be please..

i updated with some pictures, it might not be that bad but at the same time it bight be horrible, also, If i buy one of those aftermarket 5/16" plenum spacers, does it come with the brand new whole plenum or just the spacer to the stock plenum?

well yeah it does look corroded in some way, but from the pics i dont see it being a issue beyond cosmetics. im not sure why it looks like that. moisture maybe?
what you can do is if you are gonna put a spacer on ,when you have the plenum off maybe clean it real good with some Carb cleaner or something like that. see if that helps.
here is the polished. its a little pricey for just looks. you might want to try an aftermarket plenum but you loose the engine cover for most of them

hmm. that might be a good point.
ive never see a Z's plenum look like that and there are a lot of people on here who have alot more miles and wear and tear on 2003 Zs. was it bought from a dealership or from a private party?

The upper portion of the plenum is oxidized. I suspect that the previous owner (dealer) used some sort of cleaning solvent. The solvent removed the plenum's finish allowing rapid oxidation. The problem is cosmetic.

what davidv said makes sense too and alot better scenario than flood or moisture damage
are there any other places that look like that in the engine bay?? under body?
if its as simple as that it might be solved by just getting a polished plenum or something like what was mentoined earlier
