Get a polished plenum or buy the Crawford cast plenum and strut bar.

Take a look at the rest of the engine block using a flashlight.

Is it REALLY just the plenum, or does the whole engine (i.e. all the aluminum parts) look like that?

I wonder if it could just be the salt air, you live in FL right?

Check it out and give me ideas of what you think it could be please..

That's what the Florida environement does to aluminum... it's a build up of aluminum oxide rust on top.

This thread is a little old, but just wanted to know if you figured out what the problem was. I live in Miami too, I have 40k miles, and my plentum looks nothing like that.

my intake on my truck did the same thing after a while. scrub it with fine steel wool, like 00 or 000 grade. i coated mine with clear POR-15, still looks as good as new 2 years later.

I think it can be a combination of wrong cleaning product and not having a garage in a rainy/cold area.

it is aluminum oxide. The equivilent to rust on aluminum. Most of it will wipe off with a coarse rag. steel wool will take the rest off and if you want to be really pretty you can buff it out to look like it's been chromed.

Everyone thinks Cali cars don't have this happen. They do if not garaged properly or if you live by the ocean.
