I currently own a 03 track and i can tell u guys i love the car. I was wondering wut the differences are between the new 300hp Rev up motors as opposed to the 03 287hp engines? Is there anyway to make the 03 engine up to par with the new ones? What parts are necessary to make a even match? My frend has a 05 anniv. and is planning to get the Mrev kit. We were going to compare after he has installed the kit to see if the low end and high end can be evenly matched by aftermarket parts. Any input would be great Thanks!!!

Well I have driven his car and i can feel the difference in the high revs but it seems like i can take off faster cuz of the TQ. We haven't really ran the cars up high yet but im sure his will gain on me once it gets up there

dont forget the weight factor of the 2006 Z's plays a role aswell

what will i have to do to make up for the high end on the new rev-up engines??I know FI is always an options as well as changing engine internals (cams Etc.)

Would replacing the cams and upgrading the plenum make up for the additional power and rev on the Rev-up engines? Is there other ways such as ecu flashed that may remap to make the 2 platforms perform equally??
Yeah, we should demand a Bill of Materials for both and then compare the two. That will tell us which parts are different. VTC on the exhaust is definately a plus, and probably the reason why the rev-up gives more top end. High performance Hondas all feature this exhaust cam-change, which is why their high performance motors rev so high all the time.

I do enjoy the TQ feel on my car but would also want it to perform just as well on high end. I was wondering if the power difference can be made up by simply adding bolt ons and Ecu reset? Im still very unfimiliar with the new rev-up engines and how i can make a even match by doing minor aftermarket modifications. Of course breaking into internals would help a lot. Would it be a pretty even match up with basic bolt ons on each car ( intake, exhaust, plenum spacer, etc.)???

i would tend to say because the revup has the VTC on both intake and exaust it would respond to basic breathing bolt ons better than the 287.

I did do some research... and yeah the rev-up engines do respond better to bolt-ons. What is truly necessary to make my 287 a worthy competitor to the new rev-ups??

mc350z thanks much for your input.... I was wondering if the parts (cams, lower plenum) off the new rev-up engines can be easily swapped over to the 287 platform? And is it worth it to do this.

actually a plenum spacer would sort of cancel out the need for the lower plenum of the rev up. do a search for MREV and youll see that rev up owners are switching back in certain instances.
as for cams you might be better off just getting some nismos or something like that.
the biggest change imo in the rev up is just that the extra
rpms. it gives the car more of a feel of traditional japanese sports car rather than the "muscle" the 350z was intorduced with. but once again were talking 400 Rpm here. thats not earth shattering and certain ECU reflashes can mimic.
the 287 is ligher and torque but they have fairly sharp curves that fall off up top
the 300 hp ( 300 honestly is marketing a 300 hp car) have less torque but maintain a smooth curve all the way up. and 2006 are heavier which plays as big of a role against it as the tweaks to the rev up play for it IMO

i have a 2003. i got it mid 2002 actually.
m running just basic mods Nismo exaust, MD 5/16 plenum spacer and a hi -flow oiled nismo sports filter from japan with a 2006 airbox that has a velocity stack. .(i found that it feels better than my nismo CAI i ran for the last few years) my car feels very strong and has a much improved throttle response. plus ive done some basic weight reduction to it aswell (took about 80lbs or so out of the car)
yeah i test drove a stock 35th anniversary once with the rev up. since it was a test drive i didnt even take it to the 7K. honestly it felt about the same as my 2003 did stock. when i first got it
