Default Deer + guardrail = :(

So tonite I took my car out to drive a little after dropping my g/f off at her home. And Coming around a turn on the way back a deer jumped onto the road, I swerved to avoid it, and managed to avoid the deer, but not the gaurdrail on the side of the turn. I hit it with the front and then the rear of the car. I'm disappointed in myself, not sure why really. I was wasn't speeding but I thought I could've controlled the car better.
Now I gotta pay my deductable and hope maybe I can get a Nismo front bumper or something when I get it fixed.

Just venting...

i think it woulda been worse if u hit the dear and hit the guardrail after... Atlease u didnt go over the guardrail causing a splat.... Keep ur head up! The car is fixable but its jus going to come out of ur pocket.

the good news is I might get wheels out of the deal and an 2006 front bumper We'll see. Still sucks being without my favorite thing for 3-4 weeks.

get some estimates...it may not be worth paying the deductable and the increas in premiums for filing a claim. Tell the body shop guys what happened and that you are paying cash. I just had the whole passengers side of my car fixed and painted and both front and rear bumpers painted for only $1150

I got the progressive ins estimate (anyone have them? experiences?) and it's about 4400.00 So we'll see... My friend is one of the guys who works the front end of the body shop so they might end up hooking me up anyways.

With most insurance companies in my area, if you swerve to avoid an animal and crash, its an at-fault accident for you.

If you hit the animal and have blood/remains to prove it, its not-at-fault.

How does it work in your area?

It's the same way here
Gut reaction was to avoid it. I did but the car hit a bump with the rear wheels and they gave out. I tried to recover but just wasn't fast enough. I'm disappointed with myself that I didn't either just hit the deer, or try and keep the car under control.

ok the first part there didn't make sense.

But I'm not worried. The bodyshop is actually my friend's place. They've taken good care of my family's cars before.

You should have got back in the car and drove around in search for another deer. Or search the road for a dead deer and run it over again a couple times.

oops.... =)

Yeah ... as much as I was pissed about the rail. I know the deer could have killed me... The deer was a HUGE (like a 10 pt) BUCK! So yeah I got off lucky.
