Default Z price dive?

What do you all think will happen to the prices of used Z's when the GT-R comes out? What about the prices of mods? If GT-R specs are what everyone is expecting/hoping, it may become a harder sell for say a $10k (install, tune, etc) when the GT-R becomes an option

What effect with the GT-R have on Z prices? Absolutely none. The expected sales for the GT-R are only about 1500 in the US. That won't be a ripple in the sales numbers for the Z and will not have any effect on the aftermarket parts.

The Z is a different kind and class of car, so I don't think there will be an impact.

I'm more worried about the value of my Z dropping when Fast & Furious 3 comes out this summer...
You know that all the ricers will want one then!

Agree. Little or no effect because of different buyers. If the GTR is $70,000 and a 350Z is $35,000, two different groups of buyers. What would effect used 350Z prices is if Nissan dropped the price of a new 350Z, say, $5,000. Chances are pretty slim.

the only thing that will affect the price of the 350z will be the following Z replacement, whenever/wutever that is

Actually the price should skyrocket the day after FF3 debuts, I think I'll park my car front row opening nite with FOR SALE attached. I'll ask way more than I should, who knows?

Anyone else notice a huge drop in Resale Value for your Z as of late? My '04 ZR has a trade in value of 18K and a Retail of only $27k on kbb.. Whats up with that?

Why do people obsess over resale and trade-in value? How do you expect to enjoy the car?

Because a car is large investment for most and I like to have the option of moving to a different vehicle with a minimum ammout of loss. I also do not like the fact that if the vehicle is destroyed I will most likley only get the "Book Value" of the car versus what I Owe, Making it a very important issue for many people.

I would NEVER consider a vehicle an investment. An investment is supposed to give returns and gains as it gets older; a vehicle never does that. It depreciates from the first day you get it. The only way to slow that down is to not use it... how is that enjoyable?

What you owe and what the vehicle is worth are two different things, thats why they go by book value. If you put 50k miles on the car but still owe $25k on it, how is that far to say because you OWE $25k on it thats what you should get back?

Just my 02.

i have decided that if i am going to sell the Z, the time is going to be right after FF3 comes out.... especially in this area where the high school graduates get BMWs and Lexuses for graduation presents, who knows..... maybe they'll want something that would be easier to rice out... the problem is, is if i ever saw my car driving around riced out, i'd probably cry (and then beat the owner w/ a lead pipe).....

then don't sell it, park it and 10 years from now you could trade it in on a brand new one.....I agree with the whole minimal loss on investment, but must admit I think a Z is more than just an "investment"...the heritage and lineage of this vehicle will always make them valuable if kept in good condition, I am restoring an 86 and was offered 4500.00 and it is in pieces....enjoy your vehicle, and if and when you plan on selling it get what you are asking and don't back off.....rememeber, it's a Z.....

Whoever offered you $18K trade on your Roadster should be shot! They will sell it on the lot for about $30K. This is assuming it's the touring roadster.

+1, plus every car is like this, very few retain alot of value especially when it comes to trade in.

actually thats not necessarily true. when i bought my car from carmax, they said they tended to give about the same amount for auto and manual cause the auto's were hard to sell compared to manual's. 50k is damn high even if it was a 03. my 04 currently has 13.8k on it.

I bought the Car to Drive. Love it. Mind you I didn't take it in for a trade, just looked it up on KBB.

I think every dealler will tell you something different to try to get your car away from you for the least ammount of money.

The only way to get a fair shake is to print sheets from KBB, NADA and Your State's Black Book when you go in to trade.
