USAA Policy Increase
So, I got my insurance policy renewal yesterday and I look down at the 6 month premium and that it has gone up, not $50 but $150(300 more a year). So I call USAA thinking that they made a mistake because I have gotten no tickets and have not been in an accidents in 7 years. Also I will be turning 25 in a month, so back to the story. So I call USAA and they tell me that the increase is because the vehicle risk went up.
Well this is great news , I can't wait till The Fast and the Fruitiest 3 comes out, so my insurance rate will go out the roof. Sorry for the vent, has this happen to any of you.

About a month ago I posted about this issue. With all the races going on and talked about at this site, with speeds above 120 MPH, expect more increases. IMHO the 350Z, unless owners show some restraint, will be priced out of the market, due to insurance rates, as the Honda CRX and the muscle cars of the 1960's.

I was with them for about 6-7 years until I could not put up with that crap anymore. I have been a licensed driver for well over 15 years and have never gotten so much as a warning, much less a ticket, and zero at fault accidents...ever. My rates went up $100, then another $100 the next time around, so I told them where they could go, and switched companies. I am now paying $200 less a year, with more coverage. Loyalty to a company is one thing, but when they continually rape you with senseless increasing rates, find another company. Insurance companies know that you have to have insurance, and they are exploiting that fact. Screw them and shop around.

Everyone I know who is over 25 says USAA can't be beat... but for me and my Z it was about $300 more every 6 months than progressive with the same coverage. I think the reason USAA rates are so good for you older folks is b/c they stick it to us younger guys pretty hard.
I'll give them another chance when I turn 25... most people who have USAA are shocked when I tell them I get a much better rate from another company.

I got a flyer in the mail yesterday from USAA claiming to have "New low rates". Figured I would call and check it out. Exact same rate that I'm currently getting with Allstate. 27, no accidents, no tickets. They were nice enough, and probably one of the lowest, just not the best I've found....and screw Geico.

I had the same situation with them. I'm with shelter...around 160 a month (got a few tickets) anyways I got my loan with USAA and figured I'd just use them for insurance. 350 f'n dollars a month!!! I told him what I was paying and he was totally shocked. "We're usually by far the lowest" he says....

They usually are the lowest, but shopping around does pay. I had my insurance cut in half by switching to them, but after the increases, I shopped around a little more and found even better. One good point about them is that they have a "Subscriber Savings Account" that you get along with the policy. The way it works is that they average out the number of claims on your type car, and if it is determined that everyone overpaid, they put the extra premiums in that account. People that have been with them for years actually get checks back from them on the earnings from that account, and I would presume that if enough money was in that account, your insurance could in theory be free.

Its all about the Insurance Industry ratings! The 350Z insurance rating number went up last year, I believe the number was a 23. Used to be a 21, I believe. My rates went up and was pissed as well, no tickets or accidents.
FYI, an STI is a 26!
I am paying $99 every 6 months for my ZR, but thats storage insurance, $300 every 6 months on my 02 Maxima!

Sorry for the bump of an old thread... but I USAA kept jacking up my rates and I switched to progressive for the last 6 month term. Since my policy is up next month I decided to shop around again and since USAA still has my info I figured I would give them a ring... they want $400 more every 6 months than progressive for the same coverage!
Sorry I just had to rant b/c everyone is always saying how amazing USAA is and no one can beat them but I have never gotten a higher quote from any other place
edit...
my 6 month rate went down $80 from the last 6 months with progressive btw and I am still under 25... so while USAA is raising rates progressive is lowering them... I don't know how they got the reputation of being unbeatable.

Another USAA account holder here. We have our homeowner's insurance and our auto insurance with them. We're paying around $850 a year total for two cars, a 2000 Maxima GLE and the new '05 Roadster. That's not counting the money I get back from the "subscriber's savings account," which is usually around $70 or so, give or take.
Is that about the same as you guys have been paying?

I am just saying don't take USAA word for it when they say they can't be beat it pays to shop around. I am under 25 so they might just stick it to single males under 25 who drive Z's so everyone else can have a good price... but like I said no one has ever given me a higher quote than USAA.
