Default gear shift vibration

A few reviews have noted this aspect of the six speed shifter on the 350Z. Well I took a long test drive of a S2000 yesterday and found that it's shifter was vibrating like crazy. But the shift quality was the best I've ever experienced. The vibration did nothing to upset the ride or shift quality. The shifts were very precise and short. If the 350Z can come close to the S2000 in shift quality I will be very happy. BTW this was a year 00 S2000 so I'm not sure if this has changed in the meantime. Has anyone else noticed this on a S2000?

I have an S2000 and yes they all do it. The reason for this is reported to be because the shifter is direct connected to the tranny as oppossed to most cars having linkage in between the shifter and the tranny.

Maybe the 350Z is also direct connected with no linkage to absorb shock.

Yes, the new 350Z will have a direct linkage to the transmission. No cable-type linkage. My 90' 300ZX is the same setup and vibrations on this car really aren't too bad at all. Nice crisp throws. Only realy vibration is maybe in 3rd gear at high rpm and you let off the gas, but this occurs in almost every 300 i have driven.

They said they could've put a rubber isolator in there, but it would have made the shifting feel "squishy" as opposed to the gated feel that they wanted.

I just installed a directshift kit in my Civic from KumoSport.com. It replaced the rubber isolators with metal ones. It surprised me that I could feel the difference. Can't wait to get hold of this 6-speed.
