UPDATE: CHP IDs victims of Nipomo wreck
Two Nipomo men died at the scene
Leslie Parrilla
lparrilla@thetribunenews.com
Two men died in a single-car accident this morning just north of Nipomo, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Andrew G. Lyon, 28, and Anthony S. Smith, 25, both of Nipomo, were heading south on Hetrick Avenue north of Live Oak Ridge Road around 2:45 a.m. at a high rate of speed, CHP officials said. The Nissan 350 Z, driven by Lyon, ran off the east side of the road and overturned before striking several large wooden posts and ejecting both men. Lyon was not wearing a seatbelt. Smith was wearing a seatbelt.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

When the Police arrived they said the motor was cold and that it had been there for a few hours. They said he missed a curve and rolled several times and hit a power pole.

I wonder how the passenger got ejected if he was wearing his seatbelt. It must have been very traumatic(obviously). Not wearing a seatbelt = darwinism@work. Riding at a high rate of speed with a driver who doesn't have enough sense to buckle up = darwinism@work.

Not to poke fun at this tragedy, just making a point. Terrible news. R.I.P.

Wow! That's just sad. RIP.

Man...I've been hearing a lot of Z accidents lately . Drive safely everyone!

Now I just hope that CHP don't pick on all of us Z guys now with all these accidents envolving our cars .

things happen. We just assume its more Z owners because thats what we pay attention to. Im sure for every Z theres 50+ other cars in the same or even more traggic. Im happy with my insurance prices 840/year full coverage through nationwide

Being ejected from a car at a high rate of speed can hurt you. That is what I heard.

I completely agree that you should always wear your seat belt. However, a friend of mine got involved in a serious accident not wearing a seatbelt. After the investigation they told him that if he wasn't thrown out of the car, he was dead. In this case it was just pure luck though.... Normally the seat belt will save your ***!
