Default 2003 Owners help

I am looking to buy a used Z, my price range is $18-21,000 max. I will be buying in october and looking to get in one with 40-50k. I am looking to end up with an 03 because of my price range and I was looking for feedback on problems of the 03's, should I stay away? I want a Z but don't have the cash for an 04+ but I am looking to buy a car, drive it how it is supposed to be driven and not worry about problems, it's a new car. Are these 03 issues overhyped? I don't want an auto, are these issues usually fixed under recall or warrantee? Any help would be nice.

First you can easily pickup a Z for around 20K if you go private party with less then 40-50K miles I see mint $20K Z's with 25-30Kmiles all the time

There appears to be a higher number of problems with the 03's but the same problems have occur with the newer models.
The biggest is the tire feathering problem, and the tranny failure do some searching on the boards for more details.

I have a '03 with 36Kmiles and not a single problem and I'am not always a gentle driver , I know a few people of the boards that haven't had a single problem as well

I think the 03 problems are overhyped, there is just a consentration of problems on this board but they only represent a small fraction of '03 owners, I'd imagine most 03's are fairly problem free

try to get a late model 03 or early model 04 so that you still have a little bit of warranty left to handle any small issues you may run into (i.e. window motors). you shouldn't have a problem getting one for $18k-$21k, just make sure to give the thing a good look over especially the tires and the trans (look for heavy tire wear, slipping clutch, grinding, etc). 03's aren't nearly as bad as some people make them out to be, and honestly even some of the 06's are having issues. just buy smart and then take good care of her once you found the right one for you.

Just turned 20 here. I like to rip the Z every once in a while. I have a little over 52k miles on it. The tranny is on its way out but I got extended warranty. Make sure to get one!

Got a 03 Track, the only problem I'v had with mine, was the tire feathering (so far, knock on wood). But I bought the car knowing it had that problem, did some research and knew that the dealership would slap on some new rubber and re allign it. Got mine with only 8000 miles on it a month ago for $28000.
