Default 350z Timing Belt Question

Hi,

I am about to buy a 2003 Nissan 350z with 50k miles. The guy has not changed water pump/timing belt yet. Is this something I need to worry about, and how often do the belts on the 350z last?

Please let me know as soon as possible

Thanks
Tom

Make sure you check your blinker fluid. That shows signs of wear and tear, then I wouldn't buy the car.

I would have to check my manual, but im pretty sure you don't have to replace the timing chain until 100k miles...

the timing chain never needs to be replaced as it is a chain not a belt. The engine is "tune up" free for the first 100k or so they say.

It should say something about in the services portion of the manual. I think it says the timing chain lasts the life of the engine and the water pump should be good until it goes out.

Just have the belts inspected; they are likely fine, but it won't hurt to replace them; they are cheap. As for timing chain, spark plugs, etc., look at the service schedule in the manual; I belive what they are saying above is true about not having to do anything until over 100k miles. Enjoy the Z and welcome to the forum; just ignore the idiots.

Must go faster, after hearing the positive and productive responses it changed my view about the forum and I feel much more welcome. I guess there will always be those idiots that have to bring a good thing down.

Thanks guys

timing chain does not need replacing...just when you get your tune up done, they will inspect your chain to see if it needs to be tighten...other than that, the chain should last you a lifetime....

on a lighter note, hey, since you want to learn by "trial and error", can you do me one favor? get your car up to 80 mph, and drop into the first gear, force it in if you have to...I've always wanted to know what kinda reaction the Z will give....
