I have a strange window problem. When I use the auto up button my window will go up and than come down about 4 inches. I have to use the non-auto button to get it to go up. and than sometimes, when I am getting out of my car, the window will go down 4 inches when I close the door.
I have heard of other Z's having this problem but I don't know what to do about it. My car is not under warranty.

i've been living with that for 3 years..it's not a problem for me,I just don't use the auto-up function... It is a problem when i valet park my car or take it to get serviced....because i am afraid someone else would not know how to put it up and if it started raining...it would suck big time.

I had the same problem on my 2004. The dealership replaced my power window motor/regulator and the problem went away for good...Knock on wood. I was still under warranty whew. If you are out of warranty it will cost around $250-$280 to fix.

Mine has done this before, but it seems 'fixed' now... It started happening after using the keyfob to put the windows down (holding unlock). I played around with the fob (auto down some more) and the door key (put key in door, turn to lock and hold so the window goes up) and eventually it 'fixed' itself...
As far as paying for a new motor for this problem, it is definitely not worth the 200-400$ they will charge you. Just don't use "auto-up" and you are fine. Just hold it until the window is closed, save $400, voila...
When the window won't go up or down at all, that is when I will get the motor replaced; not prior.

Me too, keeps happening even after being fixed. Now the dealer tells me, to be able to bring it back in for repair, it has to happen to the technician while the car is there. I can't just tell them it's doing it. What a load of B.S!

My passenger side does it... not the driver's side.... Yet!
It is related to the safety feature that causes it to roll back down if something is in the way. This works by sensing an abnormal high current load while in motion. Things which would cause the load to increase are: something in the way, extra friction on the window track, any sticking or misalignment. A faulty regulator has been the cause of some problems, but if it still happens after having this replaced, they'll need to look into the other causes I mentioned.

I called Garden Grove Nissan, and the service tech gave me some BS about the work not being under warranty. They classified the work as an "adjustment" and would charge me labor fees ($120). He also asked if I bought the car from them. I asked him WTF does that have to do with fixing my window problem? I checked him on saying my car is only 19K miles, which he only replied as saying just bring it in so we can take a look. F**ck that shiet, i made an appointment with Tustin Nissan. They said that they will take care of the car under warranty.
Hey Jen, where do you take your Z in for service in the south bay area?
