Default Question about HP on 2005 Grand Touring Model

Hey folks, I'm helping a friend by a convertible 350z, and I had a question about the power. We're trying to decide between the 2006 and the 2005. Is HP on the manual 2005 Grand Touring model 287 or 300? I know the anniversary edition is the Rev-up engine, but not sure about the Grand Touring.

Thanks..

The 2005 Grand Touring comes with the 300hp Rev-up engine.

The 05 Annv Ed is the now-called Gran Touring model. It only has 300hp if it is 6MT. The autos are 287.

Right, I knew about the differences between the manual and the auto. Since he only wants the manual, that's not an issue. I'm getting conflicting answers though. I know that in 2006 all manuals are the rev-up engine, but for 2005, the answers are contradictory:

This place says 300hp
This place says 287

Does it make a difference if its 287hp or 300hp? I've always wondered about this but never asked.

The rev-up engine (300hp), has a higher redline and slightly different internals, and I saw something about a variable exhaust valve (sorry, can't find the site which had all that info).

Oh ok. So is it slightly better to have the rev-up engine than 287hp, or does it make a big difference. (If it was a straight quarter mile race... would it make the different in fractions of seconds or seconds on top)

i think the bump in HP is making up for the loss in torque. if my memory serves me correct the 300 hp rev-up has more hp but a loss in tq compared to the normal 287 engine.

Right, but we're looking at 37900 for an 06 and 35500 for an 05.

the 06 actually has slower 1/4 times, due to the increase in weight, the 06 also has a slower 0-60 due to the extra weight and less torque...
Only thing better about the 06 is the HID's and LED's... as far as the interior goes, i dont think u should buy a Z based on the interior, nothing to write home about.

I am pretty sure that the 2005 Grand Touring MT has the 300hp engine. Its one of the features that separates it from a Touring model convertible. You are right tho, the web has all sorts of conflicting information.

Show me something that backs this up. The weight increase is not much at all if you would actually take the time ot weigh your car at the track. The 06 also has different (bigger) rotors and calipers I believe. The entire car is practically identical with the exception of the brakes. We know the lights don't make that much weight difference. The amount of sound deadening material on the 05 down cars has been pulled out and weighed.....10lbs. Even if they doubled it, it wouldn't matter. The car weights are almost the same. The 06s also pull harder up top (where most racing is done). I think that would more than make up the 100lb difference in weight if it is even that much. Just changing the wheels alone will knock out most of the weight difference.

we're not talking about pulling wheels out, we're talking stock vs stock. the 06 is heavier period. As far as the 1/4 mile times, check to see what the fastest 06 1/4 time is on this forum, STOCK. also check the 0-60 for the 06 it believe its like 5.9 or something like that but go ahead and check it out. And what races are donefrom up top? Last time i check all REAL races are done from a dig.

I’m always curious about helping a friend threads. If your friend has questions, then why not post his/her own concerns?

He will now that he knows about the site. I've just been a regular on this board for two years, and I knew where to go to ask questions. I'm also more experienced at negotiating new car prices. It's not some grand conspiracy, for crying-out-loud. Hell I'm the one that suggested the Z to begin with.
