Default A TPS Programing Question

While I understand that if one replaces a defective TPS unit, he/she must go to the dealer to have it programed to operate with that specific car. However, let's say that a person currently has a set of 18" factory rims with TPS and all is well, but he/she then wants to run a set of 17" factory rims with a second set of TPS units. It is assumed that he/she must then go to the dealer to have the TPS units programed for the new set of 17" tires. The question is: if the new set is programed to operate with one's car, will the original set (of 18"s) continue to function or will the car recognize only one set of TPSs at a time? In short, I'd like to swap sets of wheels now and then without having to visit a dealer each time for programing.
