Default Possible to tell if clutch is going bad?

Is there any way to see if your clutch is going bad? it catches the gears fine. But not like it used to. It used to grip the gear so good and jerk the car...Now it goes in easier. I mean it feels better this way but im wondering if this means my clutch is going bad? please help guys. Thank You

thats what i thought...i just learned when i bought it like 2 months ago...but it feels like it catches smoother...I went to ocean city..did like 10 burn outs...brough it up to like 5000 rpm, than dumped the clutch...i think its in my head that by doing that i wore the clutchh out...this is real bad for the clutch right?

Try to accelerate the car from a stop in 2nd gear and against the handbrake, using moderate revs of course (1500-2000). The car should pull strongly against the brake, and stall eventually. If the clutch slips, you know what to do

I would say dumping the clutch is worse for the transmission than the clutch. And **** man, 10 burnouts, you want to buy new tires? haha

Well i figure the quicker i bald the tires...the quick i can buy new tires and rims! lol. So doing a burnout is more stress on the tranny than the clutch?

Oh damn didn't even read this before I posted. Yeah it's about the worse thing you could do to your clutch and transmission

Im new to manual transmission as well... so what else is bad for the clutch? Any specifics? I find myself holding in the clutch alot, like while im in neutral..not to sure why but is that bad?

It's not bad to depress the clutch while stopped. It's pointless when you're in neutral though

Otherwise, try to use the clutch as little as possible. You only need it to change gears, and take off, that's it.

Clutches are designed to last for probably 100k miles. But it can be a lot less if used incorrectly. Do the test against the handbrake, and if the car stalls, the clutch is fine. Clutches are either fine or in need or replacement, much like brake pads.

But for the love of Jesus Christ, stop doing those burnouts like that

so all i do is put it in second...pull the ebrake....and excelarate? than release the clutch and if it stalls im good??

Exactly, you try to pull away just like you'd pull away from a stoplight, but against the e-brake. Don't dump the clutch though, the point of the exercise is only to see wheter the clutch is slipping or not. Normally, the car should stall.

you should make it a habit to stay off the clutch as much as possible IMO. if you always press down on clutch while stopped you may forget to come out of gear and essentially cause the clutch to wear out quicker (i.e. you may be so used to holding the clutch down and, with a tensed leg, not realize that the clutch is slightly rubbing against the pressure plate...)

im sorry, let me get this straight... i start my car, pull up the e-brake, put her in 2nd and try to accelerate as normal but with the e-brake up? If I stall that is good, if I am able to accelerate that is bad? am i right?

why did you even rev it up to 5000? i feel so bad for your car man.. mine does burn outs just by dumping the clutch at 2500-3000.. and that's with a 9.5 width wheel with 275 p-zeros on them..

you can feel the clutch slip when you shift normally, meaning it'll take longer for the clutch to catch. i've never heard of that 2nd gear thing though..

another stupid question, if I have the clutch fully pressed in, and I rev up my engine.. That is not wearing the clutch in any way correct?

terminology question(sorry im a newb ) dumping the clutch is when you let it out quick right?
