you can't put 20 gallons in our cars. 305 is a good number. you prolly put in 15.5 or less (unless you drive it long after the light comes on). Our gas tank is 18gal, I believe. So 305 div by 15.5 is close to 20 gal

Did something change between the 03-05's and the 06's. I am almost positive I have seen that I have a 20 gallon tank on my 06.
This site shows it 03 Z to have a 76 liter tank. That is 20 gallons.
Now what is important to remember is to divide however many miles you have driven since your last fill up by the # of gallons you put back in when you fill back up. IE: 372 miles driven and 14.3 gallons put back in = 26.01 mpg. I average 23-26 mpg in my 06.

Reason: additional information
05 Touring with 16,279 miles. I am getting 21.8 miles per gallon driving a mixture of city and highway. My average mph is 32. I consistantly get about 392 miles per tank assuming we have 18 gallon tanks.
I don't know about the 06, but the rest of us have a 18.5
cannysage is wrong. All Z's have a 20 gallon tank, and 3 gallons of that is reserve. Look at your owners manual - it's plain as day. Most people don't realize the Z has such a big gas tank. There's a big weight difference between running full:empty. The big tank helps with the f:r weight distro.
nope. 300/20=15mpg. If you are getting 15mpg driving on the interstate, something is wrong.
That's assuming he ran his entire tank out of gas. It's more likely he added less than 17 gallons which is at least 18mpg. Regardless it's still not very good for highway miles.

my bad.. must be thinking about my 4runner.. I was never able to fill up past mid 16ish, though.. cuz of the reserve.
