I'm going to be shipping my G35c (I got rid of my lemon 350Z already) from SF to Boston, and I'm in search of a dependable shipping company.

Does anyone have any experience with auto shipping? If someone could please share their thoughts about shipping open/covered or about specific shipping companies, that'd be great!

The only "dependable" shipping company that I've found is DAS (Dependable Auto Shippers) -- they seem to be the preferred shipper for eBay Motors.

 

I've shipped by gf's benz to Cali from DC... go covered transport, car got a nick on the front bumper where it wasn't before since we did open carrier. Take as many pics as you can. Be there when it gets on the transport and gets off and inspect everything. Take down the drivers name (tags, dot# but that's a lil over kill) and all the companies number (for updates on location).

 

Stay AWAY from A1 Auto Shipping (out of California); took nothing short of an Act of God and a little litigation pressure to get my money back after they sat on my delivery for 4 mos.

My experience is NOT to automatically go with the lowest bids, and to use a service that utilizes their own trucks - not a brokering service. Open v. Enclosed service is up to you; my thoughts would be that you should consider an enclosed transport for your ride.

I ended up using Silver Bullet Transport (you can Google them) - they were priced fair, quick ship, and they use their own trucks and brought my salvage/repair right to my doorstep. They are an open-transport carrier, however.

I agree stay away from brokers... I got seriously fuked by Dormans Auto right before a car show shipping my car to Boston. I am looking at about $15k in damages and they are refusing to even talk to me on the phone. The broker (Auto Express Transport) has claimed they are trying to help me, but I swear it is like pulling teeth.
I get the distinct feeling I am going to have to sue them to get money for repairs and such...

Good luck man, and honestly, if I were you I would seriously consider taking 4-5 days off and driving it there yourself. I am doing a rally from Vegas -> DC in June and instead of transporting it there, I am taking an extra week off to drive it out there myself. If they could screw my car up soo bad in a 10 hour drive from DC - Boston, I do not want to think about what someone could do with my car in the middle of nowhere Okalahoma or something...
