If any of you are comparing your cars against the 8, make sure that it was the manual and not the automatic. The auto is a bit slower than the manual. After driving one (my parents have one), I didnt find it to be as slow as some of you are making it out to be. The car was never designed to be a drag machine. It is more of an autocross/track car. This car will pretty much get owned by anything in the straight line. However, it makes up for this in the turns. You really need to know how to drive one of these before you start racing. You have to get used to the high revs and keeping it in that powerband (above 6K).
I give Mazda alot of credit for building this car. There is a reason why there arent factory turbos, remember all of the problems with the RX-7? That car was very reliable until they started throwing twin turbos on it. They were able to get a good amount of power out of that engine on the RX-8 without FI. They are trying something different and I feel that they succeded.

i used to have an automatic rx8. my xwife made me get it because she refused to drive a stick. i didnt like the car. i gave it an A+ for style and cornering but thats about it. i had a B&B exhaust on it and i received lots of compliments for the sound. love the rotary sound!

i think they look very cool, inside and out.
they seem to handle very well also.
this one guy with one keeps harassing me in my g with it.
speending up and then slowing down to wait for me on the highway... lining up next to me at lights, etc.
i raced him once. on the high speed bends he kept up with me but didnt pull up to me. after the straights i pulled very slowly from 80+ (starting speed) but i thought it was because i was in the wrong gear.
i raced him again from a stop and put a length or so on him by 60. added a another or so by 100. im not sure if thats how it should be or if my g is slow or what.. just my experiences
honestly if i couldnt get a g or z i think i would consider one , assuming i had twisty roads to enjoy it on.

So, was it a manual or auto? Or did you already say that and I missed it. Usually Rx-8 runs mid to high 14s depending on driver. Our cars should run a lower 14 at least.

i ran one on the highway from a 4th gear pull and gave him a car length to start out and the mother****er still lost horribly.... my friend in the passenger seat didnt know we were even racing until we exited the freeway and the guy in the RX8 goes "Dam dude!" and thats when i knew he ran... i got to 130 and he was way too far back in the rear view mirror

Can someone explain this: Why is it that no one in Mazda has realized that putting the Mazda 6 Turbo 4 motor in the RX8 makes for a hell of a car pushing 274 hp on RWD. They are even going to put it on a freakin 3 series wagon. That really gets me. No creativity at all.

The RX8 is honestly a good car, in terms of styling and handling, however no torque at all, my mate has one and we regularly swap cars to see the difference.
The 4 seats and 4 door is a nifty idea, good looks when the back doors open up the other way. On the track RX8 have shown themselves to be quite a handful posting the same times as 350Z and sometimes even better.
Overall though if your looking for a tough fast sports car 350Z cant go wrong, but if your looking for something with a bit more space and can carry the extra 2 ppl, get a RX8 or even better EVO.
+1 for 350Z for me.
